To my utter amazment I found 7 eggs up to now and i'm pretty sure they are from my pepper corys.

The only other tank mates are 3 Black Neon, 5 harliquins (scatter eggs), 1 male 1 female endler(live birth), 2 apple snails(eggs out of water) and varies hitch hiker snails and I know what there eggs look like. Oh and a shrimp amarno(sp)

Now I'm going to have to read up on them haven't got a clue what to do, maybe i'll just leave them to see what happens.
Or I could if i'm quick enough reading i maybe able to set up a small tank for them.

OMG what to do

I'll try adding pics in a bit photobucket playing up

well 2 pics using forum for now.

I've just read this,

Fertile eggs will look quite beige in colour, and will develop a darker spot in the middle as hatching becomes near. Infertile eggs will look plain and white/translucent. The eggs should take about 3+ days to hatch, and when they hatch they will be absolutely tiny.

My question is: Do they turn beige over sometime or when they have been just layed and fertilized they are beige from the start.

Sorry to be such a newbee, ive never even thought of breeding corys.

yes they will be quite clear when layed and within a day say they turn like a geyish brownish clour if they go/stay white then they are usually unfertilized :)

hi StrontiumDog
yeah as JenCliBee says they will turn beige in coulour over the next few days if there fertile withing a few hours you will see the black dot devolping inside ov them.

if you havent got a spair tank all i do is remove the eggs gentally with my finger rolling up the glass and place them in a floating container in my tank with an airstone dangaling into it at the top, for water movement to stop the eggs from getting fungus,
they should hatch withing 2-5 days its usally 3 ,you can keep them in the container for 2 weeks old icecream containers are great for this,
no need to feed them for the first 24hours as they will eat the egg york for that time
after that feed them bbs ,microw worms ,liqufry no1,crushed flake, crushed catfish pellets and
hikari first bites any ov them or all,as they will need a veried diet. you should feed 3-4 times a day
and do regular water chages daily

hope this helps

Hi thanks for the replies,

I left them alone where they had been layed so 12 hours later they look to have turned a beige colour, one looks like there is something inside it.

I have had second thoughts about leaving them where they are, can they still be removed at this late stage as one of them has been eaten.

Thanks

yes m8 u can still move them just be extra gentle not 2 damage :) as u say 1 has been eaten this usually will be the case for all of them if left unless ur very luck :p

Hi Again,

I have a Breeder net set up in another tank, would this option be wise to move the eggs in this one as there
will be a temperature difference?

Or should I collect the eggs in a bag and treat the just like new fish and acclimatise
over a period of time?

thanks

OMG asked my son to help me by keeping the lid open while I got the eggs (think I got 5 of them not sure) , but anyway he said dad whats that pointed to the wire on one of lights, Apple snail eggs I told him.

Last time I had apple snails they layed eggs but got fungus on them, these dont look like they have and i've forgoten what colour they change too.

Well off to another part of the forum to ask questions.

Oh here's a couple of pics if anyone intrested.

The apple snail eggs will usually take about 15 to 20 days to hatch and will become a greyish color toward the end. If you leave them where they are and they are fertile, you will probably get as many snails as you would really want. Those snail eggs can also be removed and raised separately but the method is a bit complex and not really for this thread.

mmmmmmmmmmm got home today another 5 eggs, all white so I take it they hadn't been layed long ago,
one was gone before I got chance to try and move them.

Tried to move 2 of them, burst both of them :grr: I must have bear hands or just clumsy, the other ones came off no problem when they where a slight beigh colour.

They're just messing with my head laying eggs 2 days after the first lot, or is this normal?

I'll leave the other 2 till they've changed colour a bit. Just hope apple snails don't find them.

I think in the long run these 2 have paired off so, hopfully if I read up some more I can maybe put them in another tank and take them out when they've done the job and not mess with the eggs.

A heavy female will continue to breed every day or two until she runs out of eggs. If she is really heavy it can take quite a lot of daily small breedings before she stops. Some breeders will limit how many times they let her breed in order to minimize any damage from too much drain on her.

Hi OldMan47,

She's not a big female and she doesn't look heavily loaded with eggs. These where only bought about 2 weeks before my post I think, so they are not mature fish.

Last 2 days more eggs have appeared on the glass, I've managed to get another 19 into the breeder net.
Of the 5 I collected the other day 2 where white(these have been removed), 3 where still a beige colour.
I have sucked the 3 up in some tubing and had a closer look but I can't see anything developing. This is leaving me to belive
that they are infertile.

Everytime i watch them the male starts feathering the female( my terminology for getting her randy lol) but I never see anything else but when I turn my back and leave them to do other things. I come back to find more eggs.

So I can't tell if they are even doing it right, well I will do if nothing hatches. I think they are far to juvinile just yet but,
:good: for trying.

Well today i thought i'd check the eggs out for fungus. I wasn't keepng any hopes up, so I was sucking them up though some 6mm air tube. Out of the corner of my eye I seen some movement, low and behold I got myself a Wriggler :hyper: :yahoo:

This is where I first found the little wriggler

He's in here just now but I may put him back in the net, what do you think I should do?
