Wha!?!?

no, it's just some people don't help, just lecture, sorry chrissi.

thanx to any1 who did help by the way.

will they mate, the two that are in together? how likely is this?

i may sound like an idiot, but these were sold to me as a pair. that's why theyre in together. nobodys said otherwise, and i'll always do the best by my fish, which is why i'll get a new tank if need be.

from the look of your picture - you have a veiltail . veiltails are not desirable to breed as they are so commonly available and it would prove very hard to dispose of the fry. either way i doubt they would breed successfully kept together in a community tank

yeah. I hate it.....

I ask about my pleco's color change, i get five million rants on the tank he's in, and not a single answer on the color.

The pleco will probably be going back to a LFS soon.

Anyways, Yes.

Multiple females can be kept to gether.

Males must be kept alone.

Males and females do not mix.

Males and males of course don't mix.

But females do. But you need at least 4 to create a pecking order. So 10 gallon's about will be needed to start the sorority tank and territory. Also, heavily planted. So as to break line of sight.

Bettas in the wild don't live together so spawning will occur when a female stumbles into a male's territory and is ready to breed. How they breed in captivity reflects this and even fish kept in a divided tank but within view of each other usualy spawn more readily when they've been out of sight of each other for a while so it's unlikely you get them spawning as things are now. Couple this with the stress the female is probably under - she probably isn't in a condition to spawn.

i asked my LFS about the most popular types of af betta, and what ones he could get, and he said he could get CT's, but they dont sell. he said the only ones that sell are veiltails, hence my lovely VT. what tail type is this female? its a crappy pic but shes not a poser...

Some LFS near to me only take veiltails... perhaps it depends on the area you live. I don't see many crowntails, and definitely not halfmoons or anything else fancy.

it's hard to tell what tail type your female is, shes a very pretty cambodian colour, and very likely to be veiltail.
and as everyone else has said, breeding veiltails isn't recommended, especially pet shop bettas, mixed bag lineage and not bred for quality, like breeding two mutt dogs from the pound, heh.

breeding bettas is a time consuming and expensive hobby, only recommended if you can dedicate and entire room/section of your house to betta tanks!

im not sure how much help this is now, but, my friend has a betta julio, his lovely, a half moon, he was turquise, but slowly his turned more red, his still very pretty but the changing of colour tihng does happen, also, this friend of mine has a 100l community tank with 2 females and the male in there with a couple of gourami and they do fine, the bicker but its not like there contstantly attacking ewach other, they just chace each othero out of teritories, i think it really depends on your fishes temprament
