I was at a LFS that I ussually dont go to due to the fact i was looking for yo yo loaches to deal with a snail problem. I had a employee tyring to tell me that Cory's were snail eaters because they have the same shape mouth. LoL, I might add he didnt look like the brightest person in the world. But then again i was listening to him :hyper: Is this true, Do corys eat snails if they are in the tank? Tanks fellas :good:

I've heard of cories eating snails, only if you crush the snails up for them though.

AFAIK cories will not eat snails unless you crush them for them, and even then mine never have eaten them, this is just what ive heard.
So they wont solve your snail problem because if you have the crush them all then you might as well pick them out by hand :S

I agree. Its never a good idea to just buy a loach to get "rid" of a snail problem. They will get rid of the snails and then what? Loaches are very socailable and need to be in groups. Getting one to fix a snail problem is never a good idea unless you get a group and plan on keeping them :good:

I originally got 2 yo yo loaches but 1 died a while after i got them, and then i had one for a few months. And i decided to get him a friend, they are really happy now. So i agree that they need to be kept in groups

Betta like crushed snails. I hear people raise snails to feed them to puffers.

I have a nice group of Botia: straita and darios. I still have some snails. Only my apples did not survive them.

But, no, you do not use Cories to solve a snail problem. Best way to solve a snail problem is to majorly cut back on feeding. Keep the fish a little hungry. The snails will pile up dead. The few that remain will only get out of hand if you overfeed, ime.

Accually I bought 3 of them. Not just one, I know all loaches and most Cypranids preffer to be in groups. Also I was not buying cory's to solve a snail problem, it was what a LFS employee was trying to tell me. I was just wondering if what the LFS employee was correct about cory's eating snails.

:good:

Always good to double check info--especially many lps info, but mine too.
