While att work yesterday i was thinking of getting some shrimp for my 5gal...
but all the ones in the tanks were like £3 or £4..

sooooo i took a glance to my left and spotted the river shrimp tank :shifty: and thought :shifty: and wondered :shifty: ... 20p for 6....

so i got 8 river shrimp and put them in my tank with the fighter and frogS(<--- yes i said S on the end of frog.. i got 2 more lol).

Anyway after putting them in the tank i fed the tanka few live bloodworms and i couldnt believe that they were fishing out the buried bloodworms and eating them :p it was so cute.

I just wanted to know if they would be ok to live in there eventhough it has no air pump or filter?

anyone got any ideas?

don't know how big they are, but they will quite likely get eaten. your betta should leave them alone, but i knw my daughters frog loves them. other than that i think they should be ok and will actually be helpful. they will eat just about anything. i used to buy them for my common plec when he was in the angel tank. i would put in a dozen a week and they would follow scobie around and eat his poop. it took about a week for everyone to get eaten. now scobie is in the 210 and the 3 dozen shrimp i put in each saturday get eaten within 24 hours. they are really cool to watch.(before they get eaten i mean)

my frogs dont really like em cos they are the ADFs.. and they just get freaked when the shrimps touch em. I just wanted to know if they would survive without the air pump or filter

are river shrimp crayfish? if so you might have a problem with the cray fish eating your frogs/fish over time just wondering becuse i havent seen rivershrimp..... also IMO you realy do need a filter. i had 2 redclaw crabs in a tub with just a heater for about 2 days before they became distresed.

edit: maybe a sponge filter wold be good since it areates and filter at the same time.

River shrimp are also known as ghost shrimp or glass shrimp.

Many people have successfully kept ghost shrimp, ADFs, and bettas together.
The shrimps' survival in the tank depends entirely on the temperment of your betta. You'll find out soon enough.

That said, you really should have a small filter. A sponge filter or one of the "mini" internal/power filters would be fine.

A quick search found a Fluval 1+ filter available online in the UK for £11.29. Found a Clear-jet 1 (less respected brand, but probably still perfectly fine) for £9.39.

Your LFS should have a small internal filter available for less than £15.

i dont know if it is the same process with your shrimp but i have rainbow shrimp in with mollies.....

they seem fine, although they dont have an extremely powerful filter, they have a spongefilter. Someone told me they we're best, as with other filters like the fluvals the shrimp can get stuck inside. With the sponge filter the shrimp will even grace on the sponge....

shrimp are sooo cute!.
