During my 38 years of marraige, I've moved arround 10 times to 6 different cities, (towns or villages).....

In some areas..... (esp in the villages) as soon as you move in, your next door neighbour will knock on your door, welcoming you to the neighbourhood with take-aways or home cooking, realising that you're not organised yet..... and we'd become such great neighbours and litterally have bbq's together every weekend and even go on holidays together just on the grounds of being neighbours..... (I have even had a neighbour who would be sitting in my lounge watching TV with a self-made snack - from my fridge, when I get back from work)

Of course you get the other end of the scale as well where we will just wave in passing, but never get to know them after many year of being neighbours....

This week, we ask..... "What type of neighbour are you?" and what type of neighbors do you have???...... To what extent are you (or will you get) involved with your neighbours???

I'm a wave and hello person and my neighbours are much the same. Never felt the need for establishing a strong relationship with anyone I've lived near to. The fact that I'm useless at small-talk is probably the main reason.

We are a military family, and moving every two years or so doesn't leave a lot of time to build strong bonds with neighbors. It's a wave and hello for me too. On the other hand, my husband has strong bonds with the soldiers he works with, but that is only natural.

well in my street 4 of my closet neighbours are drug dealers ( an ambulance was called on the weekend wen someone at one of there parties drank turps.. so i overheard the police saying).. so best avoided like the plague
of course im a nice neighbour to have...make it my bizz to have everyone up nice and early on a sunday when i have the car radio blarring when cleaning the car
costs nothing to be nice :D

its a busy high street so we dont really 'have' to mingle anyway, the kids are safe to play outside, strangley crime rate is low :S

+1.

I moved into my house/block a year ago and don't really speak to any of them(only one really is who I play Darts with, 2 doors down)

Quite frankly with the state of what they look like I don't think I could cope with them in my home or sitting on my couch.

The block I am in is 7 houses long but it has 7 houses ontop (maisonette) and the ground houses have good size gardens, I have recently done loads to improve mine(new decking, slate chippings, cleared a massive mud bank at the bottom to make a BBQ/planting area) and the garden to the left is all over grown and the garden to the right is a mess, mud, toys, dog @##%.

Was sat in the garden the other day and the amount of swearing the parents shout at their kids is appauling, these kids are 6-12yrs old...I actually lost my rag as my 4yr old was in the garden.

And they all take their calls outside...#136###!

Sorry rant over.

My Neighbour is now my boss! So I have got to be careful! Sneak hope quietly when drunk ect!

lmao. Can't even drown a bad workday without worrying about your boss. :S

ive only moved house once. at our first house, we got one well with the neighbours, but i was only little so dont remember much. at out current house, i get on really well witht eh neighbours on one side, im good friends with their sons who have both moved out now. but the neighbour on the other side, i thik she says hello just to be polite, but im pretty sure she hates me because my car is really loud and i go to work at 5:45am.   and she always calls me Robert, but my names Jason. the first time it happened i didnt say anything, and now its stuck haha.

I live in a small village with only 7 houses and a farm, so everyone knows everyone and we're all really friendly with each other :) At times like bonfire night and new year, we'll all meet at someones house for fireworks, food and drinks and roll our way homes at some unacceptable time in the morning. It's good though, coz if we're away or anything, there's always people happy to feed our cat for us and keep an eye on things while we're away :)

The street I grew up on everyone was like family. BBQs all the time, all of the kids practically lived at each others' houses, eating out of each others' fridges, doors always unlocked and there was no need to knock before coming in you'd just shout hello. This was in a smallish town in Georgia, USA.

Then I moved to the UK and in my first house we had an OK relationship with the neighbours they came round for drinks a few times, it was good! Next house was much the same but all of our socialising pretty much happened outside no one really invited anyone in which was kind of weird but we had a couple of BBQs and they didn't mind feeding the fish for me when we went on holiday. There was a really nice atmosphere.

I've just moved about 5 months ago into a new terraced development of 6 houses so everyone here is new and no one is really making an effort. To be honest the people on either side of us are kind of scary lol - lots of loud swearing at the young kids like someone said before. They leave rubbish lying around in their back gardens which all seems to collect in my garden lol. It can be awkward on a nice day when everyone is outside enjoying the weather, even though we have tall solid wood privacy fences. For a while they were leaving all of their recycling and wheelie bins out in front of their houses which looked a mess but they have stopped that now, maybe us not doing it has shamed them into useing their back gardens for this instead!

My husband and I are definitley the "make an effort" type but our neighbours don't really seem interested!

We are a military family as well and I grew up with a military dad. I have been moving around my whole life. I still keep in touch with my close friends from high school and such. As far as being a neighbor, we always had bbq's and invited he neighbors (most of my neighbors where i lived before had kids the same age as mine) and we would throw down till 2am. We had a lot of fun. But that was then....don't really have that tight knit community here in St. Louis, but we are somewhat close with our current neighbors, who are a military family as well, and the advantage is we have known them for a while

I grew up military too. I find that I make lasting friends in weird places, like at the park or at kids appointments. We are stuck in junior enlisted housing right now and too many young married couples without kids yet. Mostly 19 year olds. Should be better when we move next.

my husband is a recruiter right now, so we dont even live near an army post. I do miss living in the military housing. Easy to make friends cause its a bunch of women who are going through the same thing i am
