I have a fish tank that I has been up and running for about a month now, and all of the sudden this morning I found a snail crawling on the glass. WTH? where did it come from? I do have a few live plants in there, could it have come from there? and if it did, what are the chances I have more in there I haven't found yet? will I have an infestation of snails now?

Hi it will have come from the plants the best advice i can give you is get rid of it and hunt down any eggs before you have hundreads like i do and it all started with one snail! seriously get rid

I am lead to believe, through sifting through the previous threads, that if you cut the feeding down (of the fish), you starve rhe snails.
Also, if you put some cucumber in your tank, over night, the snails will be munching in the morning. lift the cucumber out and dispose. You will obviously have to repeat this over and over.
Mind you, some on here like snails.

I think I already see maybe 3 more itty bitty ones in the rocks. How can I hunt them down? and what do I do with it once I get it out? The only fish I have in the tank right now is a small Chinese algae eater, is there some way I can get rid of them?

I don't hate the idea of one, but I don't really want to be over run with them. My 4 year old son is thrilled with it.

I have the same problem my daughter love it, but once the 100's turned up im just removing every night and throwing them in the garden just to get rid ive still got hords of them

Some suggest lettuce leaves in an empty plastic drinks bottle. All I did was cut back on feeding. Sometimes I left the feeding for two or three days, then I left them a week when I was on holiday and their numbers reduced. You can get a snail away product but I was feared to use it as if you don't catch all the dead bodies it will put a trememdous strain on your filter.

I tried both of these when I had a problem with snails and neither worked, the only way I solved it was to spent time picking them out. I get very few now and I only need to pick out what I see at each weekly water change.

So, what y-all are saying is that I am in for an infestation, and will get to enjoy the next several weeks of picking little snails out of our tank? Great.
What do the eggs look like?

I didn't bother trying to find the eggs as it's almost impossible to find them. Just pick out the snails you can see.

two days ago i had one tiny snale, now hes an okay size and i've got about 15 of them, i like them though and they stay undercontrole when they get sucked into the filter and hit with the UV light. but i might get rid of them, as you say they get into the hundreds but i've never had this problem with my biOrb ive got about 7 good sized snales and when they have babys one survives and the big one dies, its the cycle of life for me

Find that little critter and get it OUT of your tank NOW.

Either that or get a 12 bore and blow its bloody head off.

nice.

I will start snail extraction when my son is at school.

Can someone point me to a place where I can ID the kind I have and learn about their life cycles and all that? I kinda want to learn what I am dealing with.
