We Have A Snail

In snails' defense, they don't actually hurt your tank, and they clean up algae and dead plant material.

You also forgot to mention they destroy your plants too ;)

Ive got millions of snails in my planted tank and for the most part they leave the plants completely alone (There are about 4 different types of snail in there as well, all "pest" snails).

Hae a look at http://www.fishforums.net/content/Inverteb.../Snail-species/ for an ID and http://www.fishforums.net/content/Inverteb...th-pest-snails/ for ways to get rid of them. i would NOT recommend any chemical product that is supposed to kill them.

Yeah I suppose it depends on the type of snails, the ones I had liked to eat the plants

Thankyou! I apparently have pouch snails.

Mine started off with one snail, then two, then about 200

I tried picking them out one by one, that got boring, at around 30 per night, then I tried the chemical treatment which did nothing, in the end I removed my bog wood and some plants and gave them all a thourough cleaning under the tap, this got rid of around 90% of them.

My advise - get rid of them as soon as you see any.

Well, several months ago my tank focus was on two tanks with a turtle in each. I bought tons of plants and really didn't care about snails and actually wanted the buggers to get in my tanks. My turtles were very, very effective killers. Anyhoo, the snails never took.

Many many people say ya the snails are a terrible thing to have, they get in your filters and blah blah blah...never had a problem.

After I rehomed my turtles though, I opened up my canister filter...there was a full-on snail village in there. They never did any harm, but I killed them. Too bad. I just used hot water and ran it over all the media.

No snails have ever surfaced in my tank again...for better or worse.

Oh ya, the eggs will look like just a little small circular patch on the glass about the size of a pea. It will be very clear and unobvious.
