Maybe its because I have a large tank then but still you all shun the idea way too much
Maybe some of the more experienced betta keepers haven't givin it a good enough go to keep them happy because of all the tales from people like you lot and as soon as theres a little scrap you take em out.

I think it's a sexual maturity thing ..... It would b cool too do several diferent experimants and see the reactions of about 100 diferent pairs for periods of time but when they do this it is fr information too help others ...... This sounds like he ddin't know better and didn't do any research :grr:

Sorry. This is the second day in a row I went to bed with a headache, and woke up with it. Even if I felt it, I shouldn't have said it.

Lets see, I know of a person who went skydiving and his parachute didn't open, somehow when he hit he only broke a couple of bones and survived...does this mean because it happened once you should always go skydiving without a chute?

There are ALWAYS execptions to rules, but that doesn't mean people should risk the health of their Bettas to try it, that's just stupid.

I also know of someone who kept a male and female in the same tank for months, he swore it was ok to do because his got along. Then one day he took a look in the tank and the male was killing the female. Eventually it will happen, it may be a week, a month or a year, but 99 times out of 100, it will happen. Don't risk your fish for 1 time out of 100.

Very good points,Linda. And it's more than true. I've seen at least a dozen members on here alone who refused to listen and they kept their bettas together only to eventually lose one. It's really hard not to say "I told you so" when they're posting about losing a fish.

i know peopel who hav kept their males together and in 100g community tank he said there was very little confrintation the would flare and be on their way. but its still angerous to do that, one day they will b getting along and the next they will be fighting -_-

Ive got a male an female betta and when i clean them out they go in the same tank. They never fight, they just ignore each other and get on with what they're doing. It depends if your male and female get on i think and it depends how big your tank is.Besides what about theses people that breed bettas for fighting, shouldnt they be getting looked down upon. Also these fish somewhere along the line where bred from wild bettas that lived in rice fields. They must have got attacked and killed. Is'nt it just nature for things like that to happen.I are'nt wishin death on any animal but if a male betta kills a female trying to mate isnt it just nature.
p.s are'nt you lot being a bit harsh on DRD. He's only expressing what he feels. :D

i've seen both sides of the fence on this one,

I've seen 2 females and 1 male together and they got along great, then she had one male and one female together and the male would chase her like there was no tomorrow and he wasn't just telling her to go away -_-
as someone said before it all depends on the temperment and size of your tank

but as someone else said, just dont try it because people say they've done it

Since reading all this I've been keeping a close eye on mine,I think he is gay he acts like the females aren't there. They are in a big community tank though. -_-

The difference is that these fish aren't being kept in nature, they are in an aquarium. It is up to us, the fish keeper, to provide safe environments for the living things in our care. IMO, this is not being done. As has been mentioned before, it may be a month, a year, whatever, it doesn't work

it dont work, wont work and never will work, no one try this. i think the tank requirments for a betta are listed in the pined articels and if u think your know better than those on this forum and anyone else u ask about bettas then go ahead, their your fish :dunno:

Well put I think they should have a pinned topic on this

Males and females just don't mix 99.7 times out of 100. I once read that it was ok to keep a male with three or more females, and I tried it, because I was young and stupid. It worked ok for a few months, then I came home one day and my male was missing 3/4th of his fins... the females had just eaten them down to nubs. I was lucky I got home in time to remove him from the tank and he lived to see another day. If you care about your fish, don't risk something like this. It's just stupid. Period.
