Water Quality

A couple of points I'd like to clarify...

The whole '1cm per litre' thing only applies to small, slim bodied fish that get to less than three inches, adult size, so you can't use it for things like clown loach and discus.

Yes, discus keepers/breeders do feed a lot of food, but they also do massive water changes as well. 50% every other day is not uncommon, and plenty of discus keepers do even more.

Thanks for your comments fluttermouth, good points raised. I'm confident I'm within my stocking levels, and feeding is at a compromised level between where it should be at, and what is practical based around a few factors. I used a number of macro and micro ferts, have a thriving planted tank with little or no algae. Huge water changes may possibly upset the balance I have, furthermore my work schedule doesn't give me the time do do more changes than I currently do. So, I've been looking into a nitrate reactor and am planning to install one as soon as it arrives. Fingers crossed that will greatly improve the situation. Another problem, as I've just discovered, my incoming tap water had high nitrates which are alot higher than where I last tested.
