Water change technique?

But but but ..but ....but *splutter* but.. ack!

But how can you go adding untreated water direct from the tap to the aquarium without dechlorination, etc?

The water from the tap doesn't go into the aquarium. the tap water creates a vacum that draw the water from your aquarium through the tube and into the sink along with the 'driving' tap water. The tap wate ronly provides the suction to suck the water out of your tank. I clicked python when I thought it was one of those sweedish made penis enlarger things not a tap driven thing.

You mean can just flip it round and it will fill with the tap water instead of using it to suck? Ok now Understand obviously you don't have to condition your water in the states :D

I just add the dechlorinator before adding the tapwater.

I use two five gallon buckets so I can be filling and siphoning at the same time. I use a cut out milk jug to add the water back into the tank.

Add dechlorinator into the target tank you mean? Hmm, i've steered clear of that cos I was worried some chlorinated water sucked into the filter before it was neutralised... plus there is the matter of the sudden temperature change - my water comes out of the tap ice cold, so I guess it could change the tank temperature by 8 dF or so if I did a 25% change.

You don't have hot water in your tap? I adjust the temp of the tapwater before adding it.

As far as steering clear of adding the dchlorinator to the tank itself, I can surely respect that you do it a diferent way. I've never had any problems doing it this way tho. :)

long tube to the tub and buckets back.

But I got this crazy Idea to put a toilet tank above my fishtank and run a line to ad water back

I can surely conclude this is a sign that I am too paranoid about chlorine!

You don't have hot water in your tap?

Umm, yeah, I do, I guess I wasn't too sure if there would be a copper content issue for the hot water... probably paranoia again ;)

Looks to me like more people need to invest in a Python......less work means more tanks people!!! :D :smb:

No, I wouldn't say that at all. We all come from different places and not all water is the same. I would say that if someone was willing to take every precaution, then there's nothing wrong with that at all. :)

If it sits in there for a period of time, then I can see what you mean but I use hot water all day long, it doesn't have much time to sit for prolonged periods. Don't worry about being paranoid at all. If that is what makes you feel comfortable and you don't mind doing that, then who am I or anyone else to tell you differently? :)
