Hello.

We are looking at upgrading our 60l tank to a 200l (We really like the quality look of the Fluval Roma 200l, so if there are any comments on this for a start, great!)

I was wondering what sort of external filter we should be looking at.

What is the rate it should be filtering?

My current tank came with a bult in 280l lp/h which works out to about 4.5x an hour. Is this a good filtration rate? Is this what I should be looking for?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Do the roma not all come with filter? if your want to replace anyway All pond soultions offer a nice cheap filter for £59

Hi there Brian. I am fairly sure that the Roma comes with its own built in filter. That would mean to me that it is time to try out that filter and see how it performs. I use lots of sponges and externals in my tanks but if I buy a new tank with filter it always gets a trial run before I replace it. Many of the manufacturer's filters may not be ideal but will do a fine job and need not be replaced. If it comes with an in-hood filter, it has the further advantage of being unseen and making the tank that much more decorative. Why spend a fortune on a nice looking tank to make it look like one of my breeders by adding in unsightly filter tubes?

For a decent looking show tank personally I wouldn't consider anything other than an external filter. I don't know how discreet the inbuilt one is, but generally speaking a filter inlet and outlet is much more inconspicuous and easier to hide than an internal filter. If you're less concerned with how it looks you've got all sorts of options though.

And the guide figure I aim for is 6x turnover, so around 1200 lph in your case.
