I have set up a new tank and need some hardy fish to start the filter bacteria working properly. If anyone in the peterborough area of cambridgeshire has any fish they would be willing to give away for free then any donations would be fab! Guppies, Mollies, whatever!

I would of course be willing to pick up from any nearby locations!

If you plan to 'start the filter bacteria working properly', then may i suggest using the 'fishless cycle' method..? All information about it can be found over on the 'new freshwater tank' part of the forum.

Alternatively you could ask for some mature filter media/sponges. This will pretty much instantly cycle the tank. Then add fish to keep the bacteria fed.

James.

Sorry I wasn't very clear about my tank set-up, I am using a filter that has been in a 5 year old tank so I have all the bacteria needed, plus the tank has been running for several weeks now with nutrients, bactozym being added to help growth of bacteria. It is basically ready for fish but my fish in my other tank are quite fussy so unless the tank is perfectly balanced then they wont survive. None are hardy!

If its been running for weeks without a source of ammonia most of your bactreia are dead
