It is my understanding guppies and mollies need salt in their tanks. I am also under the impression angels don't like salt much. I don't know if you could put them together. I am sure someone will be able to give you a more definate answer

Mollies are brackish water fish but are very flexible and can be placed in freshwater, brackish water or saltwater tanks. The only problem is that they tend to get ich more readily in freshwater tanks. They are fine as long as you keep an eye on them. But yes, female bettas would be fine with the angels, guppies and plattys

I could go on for weeks about WalMart, but my simple philosophy is that if a fish is dying at a WalMart, it's probably not going to get what it needs unless someone like myself takes it home and saves it. That being said, I do visit WalMarts on a regular basis - NOT to shop there, just to check on the welfare of their fish. I always find something wrong - not all that long ago I found one floating dead still in his cup, still on the shelf. There was a guy working in that department not 10 feet away from the little dead guy. It was a really pretty doubletail - nosedown, grey - in a dirty cup. I've posted several times on them here, I could literally make you all scroll for minutes to get to the bottom of a rant on them. But I wont. :p

I buy ONLY the sick fish - i buy my tanks, gravel, hidey places, plants, food, etc. at other stores - and then I go home and call WM and talk to a manager, then I also call the district manager. I have them both on my speed dials on my cell. They hear from me on a regular basis. I try to remember everyhting I see in the stores and write it down when I get to my car. After I make those phonecalls, I also get on their website and email in. I NEVER get a response - and I've probably contacted them at least 25 times. AT least they're hearing from me. And I MAKE IT VERY CLEAR to whoever I'm contacting that I don't buy anything at their stores anymore besides dying fish because I am so apalled by the way they care for (or DON'T care for, rather) their fish.

People rant at me all the time and tell me that I am adding to the problem of WM continuing their vicious cycle of selling sick fish if I keep buying them. Well, no I'm not. If I continue to let them know that I am spreading the word about them to everyone, and that I've stopped shopping there, AND that I don't buy tanks, food, etc. and WHY - they get the picture. It's getting them where it hurts, their bottom line. If everyone who got pissed about how they treated their fish ranted and raved and let them know we don't shop there anymore and why, there might be some results.

And on the subject of returning fish, it's probably the right thing to do, BUT... I could never bring myself to do it. I always have to give my little guys a proper ceremony and bury them like they deserve to be. I have this weird thing about knowing a fish would go on it's final send off being flushed down a WalMart toilet. :/ I know that's probably a really silly thing, but it's just how I feel.

oh, but walmart doesnt require a body, so you could do both, bury and get the money.

Mariah said in her original post that they had changed their policy and didn't give any refunds. I don't know if she means just the local one or all of them.

huh, I know mine still does, I dont think that the localone can do that.

But the store has a 2 week one, and the desk ppl never care, especially if the dont speak english or are teens.

I know what you mean! I don't care where I got them from, by the time the bag gets home, they have a name and personality. I just can't stand to take the body back to the store for a refund. They're not a piece of merchandise. They're a living being that deserves some respect. Even if I paid a lot for them, as soon as that bag is in my hands, they're my responsibility and will not be returning to the store, unless it's in their best interests. (Such as the case where I mistakenly bought a bala shark and common plec for a 10 gal tank. They went back to a better lfs than I got them from, though.)

My husband won't even let me go to the aquariums at Wal-Mart because I get so upset. I try, but I can't save them all....

Don't get fish from Walmart. They are a nice store, but everyone I know that got a fish there lost it soon after. :-( There are dead fish in most of their tanks and I used to cringe when I walked by because of how much algae ther was. At least it's a little better now. Still, don't buy their fish if you don't want them to die. :rip:

not all walmarts are bad ya know. So you shouldnt say to not buy from all walmarts.

I have two betta from walmart that I have had for one year.

I am an avid supporter of getting fish there, under a few conditions though.... If you do decide to "rescue" fish from there, once you bring them home - PLEASE at least call the store and let them know you took a fish home from there ONLY because it was in such horrid conditions and that you're apalled and very mad at the store. And it's also beneficial to tell them that you won't shop there anymore because of this incident - EVEN if that isn't true. If you decide to still shop at WM, that's your business - but you need to make them think you aren't going to. That, in my opinion, is the only way that they're going to get the point that just cuz their bettas (who are kept in nasty conditions) are selling doesn't mean that people are okay with how they're kept.

I have purchased or had 19 bettas come into my life thus far. About 14 of them have come from WalMart. Only one of the ones that came from there died, and it was my fault. (long story, don't ask)... Granted, most of them I had to nurse back to health from some nasty illness, but for the most part they've become the most very enjoyable fish I could have ever asked for.

Bettamom - I think that what you are doing is one of the greatest things a person can do.
Its to bad you dont live near me. I posted about the female bettas being in a bad condition yesterday. Well guess what, I went back into WM today and more than half of the bettas were gone. Now '"maybe" someone bought them but considering that there were about 6 dead ones in the tank.... Anyways keep up the good work bettamom

I did purchase a male betta from there today... I couldnt help myself :) He was calling my name.... :fun:

Edited to add - Once I find some females I am going to get some for my tank with my other fish
