I finally decided to give my lovely Wahookie a chance to reproduce those unique genes. Conditioned him and my orange plakat female from Kelly for two weeks, and put them in the spawning tank yesterday morning. My first hint that something wasnt right was the fact that he was more interested in ME than HER. If I casually peaked in to see what was happening, he'd be chillin in the opposite corner from her, and then come flying up to see me. She was interested, but noooo. And did he blow one bubble? Once again noooooo. Left them in overnight hoping he'd bubblenest, but he didn't. So I let her out, just to see if he wanted to bubblenest while spawning, and he could care less! Took a few halfhearted passes at her, but nothin. I gave up. Can't believe that fish, he's like no other betta! Both in looks and in personality.
Let's just say I just put the black plakat in there now. We'll see if he can get the job done.
