I got a betta. I was the weirdo who spent my entire freshman springfest in the computer lab researching bettas. That was four years ago. Once, I went to the store and bought one when my dad came to visit, and he took him home for me, but he didn't know how to care for one and wouldn't listen, so the fish died.

Now I finally have my very own little fishie. I bought a 10 gal and now it's sitting half full while the water gets ready for Vim Fuego, aka one spaz of a fishie. Over time I'm going to get gravel and live plants and some bamboo and little ceramic pots for him to hide in and some corries.

Here he is in the pathetic little cup

and the ten gal waiting. I don't have a top yet, so that's why it's so empty.

I was always sure I'd get a yellow or orange or brown fish, but I just really liked him, he looked even more marbled at the store.

Nice! He looks really healthy. I would have gotten him too.

Really good to see you giving him a great home. You can fill it a couple inches away from the top though. Betta's can't jump nearly a foot

He's lovely. You can just use a piece of perspex plastic cut to size for a tank lid if you like.

You may want to move the tank from there or cover the tank back though as the natural light will cause a hellish amount of algae !!!!!

It's filled, I think today I'm going to get some plants for it.

your not going to leave him in that cup when youve got a tank for him surely ???

are you putting a filter and heater in that tank ???

would have thought you'd have done that long before you got the betta, have you cycled the tank

Oh he is gorgeous! I just love those little marbled blue ones.
And I must say.. offtopic, but I love that garden outside! I want one just like it! heh

Anywho... kind of a tease to sit him right by that big ole tank! :p heh

As I was buying him I was thinking I should have waited to buy the fish until the tank was set up, but my reasoning on that one was that the fish would have sat in those cups anyway at the store.

That garden is my dad's pride and joy there. :) We have fresh veggies all the time.

Looks pretty obvious the fish was in the pot for the photo

so its ok for the betta to sit in the cup at your house - surely thats the reason why people go mad at lfs for keeping them in the cups

no i dont think it was obvious it was in the cup for the photo - the fish is in that cup until the tank is ready so its in there full time -

my reason for asking the above questions is that you say you have done four years research - and your tank isnt even ready

I didn't get that impression b/c of the blue water. It's the same water that Petsmart uses, so leads me to believe that the betta is in the cup until the tank is ready.

I also think you should just go ahead and put the betta in to the tank. Then when you get gravel, decor, etc.... take the betta out while you get all of that situated and put him back in. It would be much healthier for the betta to be in the tank instead of the cup.

He was in the cup because I bought him in the cup from Walmart. I was waiting for the water to sit a while, but now he's in the big tank. I am going to get a heater, but not a filter.

I'm sure he is much happier now. :)

You can still fill that tank more. about half of that empty space can be filled.

May I ask why you are choosing not to filter the tank? it will require a lot of effort to keep ammonia levels down without biological filtration.

Nice betta :) I love blue marbles. I would suggest some form of water movement at some point soon. Bettas like movement in the water :) With some plants/gravel over time that tank will look great!
