I have 5 young angels in a 55g fw planted tank. Right now two of them are breeding, I can see eggs and both fish "hanging" out together. These fish are very small, much smaller than I thought Angels would/could breed. Their bodies are only 1 1/4 inches or about 3 cm; they are healthy and with finnaged are about 4 inches. The breeders are a wild type female and a "black lace" male.

Can these eggs survive?

Can I remove the eggs , like I did with my corries, and raise the fry in another tank?

Thanks for any quick advice... I dont want the eggs to get eaten..

Cheers

Age has more to do than actual size. Once they get to about 9 months of age they are capable of reproducing. I've had blacks, which can be slower growers, pair up & spawn when they were half dollar body size.

If they are in a community tank it would be best to pull the spawn if you expect any eggs or fry to survive. They will need bbs for at least the first 2 weeks, and you will need considerable tank space to raise them to a sellable size. Most spawns are 200+ eggs, and you need a half gallon per fish at dime size.

I never pull the first spawn, hatching rates are way low until they get some experience. If they get eaten or otherwise don't work out they will spawn again in a week or two.

BTW, congrats, a spawning fish is a happy fish! :good:

Thanks for the help! The fish appear to be fanning the eggs and are still spawning now. When you say "pull the spawn" do you mean remove only the eggs? or the parents too? I am pretty sure angels do not raise the fry like discus do, but Im not certain...

Thanks...
