One of my female dalmatian mollies has become very skinny-almost with a sunken look. The other mollies are fat and round as usual and all of the other fish in the tank are normal looking as well. All parameters are fine, partial water changes done every week-10 days. She seems to be eating normally, picking at algae as normal, but I did see her flash a couple of times. I can't see any spots on any of the other fish and since she is a dalmatian mollie it's hard to tell but I don't think she has any unusual spots on her. She is sitting on the bottom now, but upright and not gasping or laboring in any way. Any ideas?

What does it look like when she goes to the toilet is it borwn or long stringy and white, also does the anus looked inflamed and red, and is there any worms hanging from the anus.

I'll watch for that. I haven't noticed any poop hanging from her lately now that I think of it.

Watch for her when she goes to the toilet, wan't to rule internal parasites out first.

Also read this just to make sure.
Mycobacterium species (Tuberculosis)

A. Gram positive, acid fast rods (M. marinum, M. chelonei and M. fortuitum are the most common Mycobacterium species involved.)

B. All species of fish are affected. This disease affects both saltwater and freshwater aquariums.

C. Clinical signs of tuberculosis are quite variable. The most common signs are anorexia, emaciation, vertebral deformities, exophthalmus, and loss of normal coloration. Numerous variably sized granulomas are often observed in various organs throughout the body. Often numerous acid-fast bacteria are observed in the granulomas.

D. The aquatic environment is believed to be the source of initial infection with fish becoming infected by ingestion of bacterial contaminated feed or debris. Once an aquarium is infected with this disease, it is difficult to remove except by depopulation of the aquarium and disinfecting the tank. Remember this is a zoonotic disease (atypical mycobacteriosis).

E. Atypical mycobacteriosis may manifest itself as a single cutaneous nodule on the hand or finger or may produce a regional granulomatous lymphadenitis of the lymphatics near the original nodule. Occasional local osteomyelitis and arthritis may also occur.

Should I take her out of there? I don't have a quarantine tank now but I can get a 2 gallon or something similar from walmart today. I have some filter media and gravel from my big tank that I can put in it.

I would if you can to observe her so you no what you are dealing with.

I just went to check on her and she was laying about half on her side, definitely gasping now. I put some tank water in a big jar and some salt and when I went to net her, she swam in a spiral, nose up. Any clue what that might mean? She's not looking good-I'm sure she'll be dead by the time we get home from town later. :( The only meds I have on hand are melafix, jungle fungus tabs and silver.

btw if she dies, this will be my first fish loss (other than my pleco which I only had for 5-6 days) since I started coming here and learning about how to properly keep a fishtank. I've had this particular fish since...november I think.

Not sounding good, I wouldn't medicate anyway if she is heavey breathing, is it possible to issolate her, as it's best to get her out of the main tank just in case.

I took her out of the tank. All I had is a big jar so that's what she is in. I'll probably get a small tank at walmart and if she's still alive when we get home I can put her in there.

Or bless her to be honest she won't make it, but best to have her out of the tank, with not fully knowing what she has.

Our stupid walmart! First of all they had nothing smaller than a 10 gallon KIT. not even a 10g by itself. Then they had a betta in a lily vase way back in the craft dept where no one probably even pays any attention to it (I'll be calling about that tomorrow-couldn't find anyone in that dept tonight). My kids were outraged. I guess I'm raising them right.

The mollie is still hanging on in the jar. I can't take it though, I might have my husband put her out of her misery somehow. I know she's suffering.

Sorry, i no it's awful, you no when you can tell.

Well she's gone. :rip: Now I have to watch the rest of the fish to make sure no one else starts to act sick. Hopefully they won't.
