I bought a second hand EHEIM 2214 filter from ebay. It is very noisy, and the outlet water is extremly weak, does not like any filter I had before, I wonder it must be stuck somewhere, but I can not find anything.

any suggestion? Many thanks

Impeller, shaft, or bushings on the end of the shaft.

Just to clarify for those who do not know the language of pumps. The impeller is the fan-like part of your pumping system. In most filters it is sold as an assembly that includes the impeller, the magnetic drive , the shaft through the middle of the impeller and magnet and finally the bushings that go on the end of the shaft and act as water lubricated bearings that provide a mount for the impeller shaft. The bushings are those little rubbery looking bits that fit on the end of the shaft and sit in some kind of recess in the impeller housing / case.

Thanks guys, I bought a new impellor, put it on, it is much quieter compared to before, but still have sound, like some bees flying. I have other 3 big external filters, they are so quiet, I can not hear nothing.

btw, who knows how to open 2213 filter, as it has a rubble ring to keep airtight(water tight), it is nightmare for me to open it, it is so tight, I have to use screw driver to work every tiny gap, it cost me nearly half hour to open it, and made a mess on the edge of the cansiter

I have no experience with the Eheim filters but there is no way a filter should require a prying device to open it. You must been missing some key trick to opening that thing. It is perhaps a latch or similar item that you have yet to discover. I will leave it to others with experience of that filter to tell you what the secret to your filter might be.

If it's the same as the 2217 with the quick release taps, once you've disconnected the quick release hoses and drained the filter, leave the outlet tap opened and the filter should be easy to open.

quick release taps? I can not find it. There are 4 clips on the cansiter, once undo them, I thought the filter should be easily opened, however, it is different from my other big external filters. I did disconnect both pipes. But I think one mistake maybe, I should drained the water first?

If the filter is full of water and I switch off both ends of the pipe, the pressure is so strong, that I can not it. But if the filter is empty and I can switch on the pipes, then the air can go into the filter...

I may try it next time, as I really do not want to open that bloody filter now

Yes, that's what I meant. At least one of the pipe ends should be open to allow the air into the filter when opening, otherwise you'll just be trying to create a vacuum inside the filter.

It's easier to drain the filter first, with the bottom hose pointing into a bucket or in the sink, before opening the filter.

The same applies when closing the filter, make sure at least one of the hose ends is open to allow air out of the filter when closing the top.

There was a really good post on another forum detailing how to clean the Eheim 2217. The same should apply to your filter.

Type "eheim 2217 cleaning" in Google and it's the 2nd link. The full version has pictures too.

Just looked at the example of how to clean it like you suggested at I find its a bit tricky to get open sometimes. Cant believe how dirty his filter was! He must have left it for years to get that bad! I don't have that model but a similar one with a bucket type thing inside that I just take out when I need to clean so I don't need to drain the whole system.

Also insight to the original post I find its quite a loud unit. But I cant hid mine away and it sits in a bucket next to the tank :( If anyone knows how to make them quieter I would love to know. But even when it was brand new it was just as loud as it is now.
