It would depend on the type of algae really. Some do thrive in excessive Phosphate, others actually suffer for it. Best thing to do, IMO, is ask the planted tank guys about it, giving a photo and stocking details along with filtration info. They are the Algae experts

mixmaster jay, where abouts did you fit your uv? i am fitting it to my rena xp3 when its arrived! but looking inside my cabinet it looks like i am going to have to fit it really close to the filter almost level and possibly the intake for the uv may be lower than the out pipe on the filter.. will the filter be ok with this? or will it cause the filter to run abnormally due to having to pump down or at best level to feed the uv steraliser? i hope you can picture my situation in your head from the description....
