hi all,

we've set up a marine tank a few weeks ago, everything is running fine, salt is correct etc. but i'm having grief with the protein skimmer,

it's a 100L tank and we've put in a v2 120 nano skimmer, when i first get it going it's fine, bubbles at the right level, foaming properly etc. but after 2 days it starts massively overfoaming, even when i've got the unit right up high out the tank.

i took it apart and scrubbed it clean, put it back in the tank and it was perfect for 2 days, then overnight it's started doing it again, the foam is pouring up through the unit, none of the bubbles are running out the water return anymore,

does anyone have any ideas why it's suddenly doing this after being spot on for a couple of days?

cheers all,

jonny

Set it to the correct level and leave the skimmer running for a few weeks. If it was new as I suspect it is then they require a break in period. If you read through the threads here people are always complaining of the skimmer being noisy or micro bubbles are filling their tank then after a couple of weeks they say it is the best skimmer in the world.

Regards

cheers mate,

it's a new set up from scratch, 1st attempt at marine so the gruelling 8week wait for it to mature before we can start to bring in fish,

it seems to be sporadic, no problems with microbubbles and the noise isn't an issue, just seems to be fine for 2 days then spends the next 2 filling the cup to overflow within an hour, then back to normal, trying a new hood now so hopefully if it does overflow it won't do it all over the floor this time

hiya,

i'v got one of thes on a 94l tank, been going for about 2 months

it is noisy when it starts, and u do get micro bubbles, normally for 2-3 days or so

BUT, the biggest differnec i'v found with my one is that if u adjust the flow rate so that its quite high, ie the outlet is open, then u don't get the skimmer cup filling up ridiculously, but u do get he odd micro bubble, the reverse is also tru in that closed leads to few micro bubbles but faster filling of (weaker) skim. but other than that its fine, been running for 2 months now and not needed to do any maintenance as yet, so all is well and good :)

hope this helps
