I posted about 10 days ago asking what experience people had with these. Based on the replys, I decided to buy one and ordered a Coralife Turbo Twist 3X 9W. It was the least expensive I found (usually not the smartest thing) and I have found Coralike products to be reliable. My son and I set it up on Sunday afternoon and I am happy to say that in just 24 hours, the water has become almost crystal clear. It is huge improvement over what I had. I am definitely impressed and excited that I can see everything in my tank again. Thanks to everyone who replied to the original post.

Hmm, that's good, cos I just got one, and since just about all the fish in the 'Ich Tank of Death' are just about dead I haven't bothered setting it up yet. Maybe I'll have a go tonight, at least if it clears the algae up it'll be something.

I don't know that it will clear algae other than free floating diatom but it definitely got rid of those in a hurry. It would also get rid of any free floating ich that is still in the tank. I think it is always present in most tanks just waiting for something to stress the fish and give it a start.

The myth of Ich being present in every tank is one that is always bandied around. It can be brought in on perfectly healthy looking fish (on the first stage of infection they are often attached to the inside of the fish's gills). The free swimming stage of the parasite (when in water) has (IIRC) only been found to survive for a maximum of 56 hours.

Skeptical Aquarist has a wealth of info you probably never wanted on ich.

I have a UV tank running on my DP tank and the water is always crystal. When I can get around to it I'll throw some on my big community. Just a matter of getting the pump and tubing and finding a cheap second hand unit.

Glad to hear it hs worked out well for you.

Andy

WOW! I didn't expect it to work so fast! I guess now we'll have to find a way to plumb it to keep it on there all the time, instead of just hanging it off the side! W00t! :D Congrats... can't wait to see it again.

I saw that same UV I may get one myself.
It has definitely impressed me. This is a 75 gallon tank that I could barely see the back of on Sunday and now it is crystal clear. I just wish I hadn't put off getting it for so long.
