Hi there,

I recently visited a firends aquarium, and they have a UV light that the outlet tube passes through (tube that flows into tank from an external filter).....

They evidently kill disease causing bacteria? im not sure if this effects my benificial bacteria or no?

Any experience or comments on these so called "fail safes" would be much appreciated.....

Also, how much are they in the UK?

They only kill water bourne batcteria and parasites, your beneficial bacteria live on the surfaces of the aquarium and in the filter so it doesn't harm them. They will also kill water bourne algae. I used to run an 8W Vecton unit on my marine system, was about £60 I think, but don't bother with it on the fresh system. I use another one on the pond, keeps the water clear. HTH.
