Utter confusion..

YAY!

New spawn I agree with slamster. Good luck with ur eggs. Ill be looking for updates!

Thanks for the well wishes, all of ya's
Eggs started hatching a few hours ago (10ish my time). A 48-50 hour incubation,I think this was the longest one to date. I started to give up and assume it was a no-go,but the eggs looked fertilized...so I just kept watching. Then a few hours later I could see eyes appearing in the eggs  I managed to get a shot of some unhatched eggs along with the first of the hatched fry hanging on the glass.
Ya know what was sooo cool? I could see the black lines of the spinal cord developing inside the eggs, and so I can tell already that those will be dark fish, if they make it that far of course. I'm not counting my eggs until they're free swimming, as usual.

amazing pics!
im sure the fry will be awesome!

in this months issue of fama, leo buss does an interesting article on the metallic gene and crossing non-metallic and metallic. check it out (if you havent already) :D

No,I usually read it online but this month's issue isn't up yet. Hopefully it said good things.... :hey: huh...huh? :hey:

The fry are amazing. I have a very corny long story that goes along with this spawn and the importance of these fry. I already adore them so much because they're a gift,I won't go into detail

Anyway, they're so peaceful and still and they're doing very well on their own so far. They seem to just be hanging from the water surface. They're not wiggly and clumsy at all. If one falls he doesn't bob up and down only to wind up lying on the ground like some I've seen. They just hang there

I want to hear the long corny story. :-( I love your stories. :D

Oh, and they're bee-oo-tee-ful. :hyper: Sorta... they're kinda small yet. ;)

Awww their soooo cute kelly, i bet their sooo special, especially bc of their colouring, and the daddy being abit old. But im sure they are great looking fry!! the pix look amazing! i still wish i cud see betta fry in the flesh!

 I'm so happy, that daddy is my favorite of your fishies, I can't wait to watch these kiddos grow up

They look big :look: am I retarded or are they big for newborns? Maybe it was the 50 hours?

I wonder if they hatch faster with Dad mouthing them...My red spawn took 36-40 hours dad-less where as my other ones have all been right around 24 with Dad...just an observation :dunno:

 free swimming babies

About how many wigglers are there?

I counted about 25 free swimmers who are out in the open or noticable. But there was way more than that last night and I don't see corpses so I assume they may be hiding already

I'd share my personal revelations, guys. But it's long and drawn out, really. You'd all think I was weird anyway

im sooo glad you finally got some metaic masked fry ut of him ive been looking to buy some green masked fish:) i hope they grow big.

Great pictures, and I'm so glad for you. My 2 spawn tanks with a few babies that dad didn't eat have 1-2 fry and 5-6 fry in each tank. Seems like your 1 tank outnumbers my 2 spawns. Ha, I just want to choke dad sometimes

I want to hear the long, corny, story, that will make me think that I'll less weird.

Thank you guys  I'm glad too. They're doing great and I think I see them hunting down the smaller microworms. It's so hard to tell if they're eating or not those first few days because of the way they stare so intently. I sit waiting and thinking "Go on...eat it...eat it" but then I start to get cross eyed from looking too hard :p

TW ~ do you use the vinegar eels? I'm wishing I had some right now although I've never tried them before. Most of these guys are hanging out at the surface and I'm worried they're not seeing the mw's before they sink

Wuv maybe you could buy a black piece of paper on the underneeth of your tank. and a black cover on the tank and put a spot light on the side while they are eating. Just an idea

Wuv, I just started using Vinegar eels and I can't tell what they eat if anything. I wanted to try them since they are slightly smaller than MW and they swim around. Seems like a good idea to me, but the MW are easier to just swab and dip. Not like the VE are much harder, just a few more minutes, but easier to culture and stinks like vinegar instead.
