Using two heaters at once.

Actually its better. Say you need 300 watts to heat your tank, it would be better to have 2 150 watts that way the heat can be sent all across the tank. :)

i used a electronic temp gauge to check each end of the tank plus the middle to help get a balance in temp.

Also, if one of them goes kaput, you can always rely on the other one to make sure your tank doesn't become a skating rink...

or if the thermostat gets stuck and it starts heating 24/7, at least it won't boil your tank.

Hi All

Maybe I`m wrong (please tell me if I am) but most heaters for tanks these days have an internal sensor to only allow them to heat to a certain level and then switch off - surely if two heaters were used they would both detect that the correct temperature has been reached and then switch off - therfore there should be no chance of them overheating the tank (as long as they were set to th o the correct temperature to start with.)

Best wishes

Phil

the thermostat sensor will only detect the water temp of the water around it

so say your tank is 4 foot or over it will only warm up one end while the other end remains cool. having heater each end means a constant level temp

Using 2 heaters in a large tank is a good idea, but it's not always practical. The problem is that wall outlets are scarce and even using a power strip, they fill up fast. :/

Yea, but I don't think heaters take up a lot of power, do they...

If you have good ciculation in your tank through filters etc. then the water should be moving around the tank anyway.....I have done temp checks on my tanks at times using a few thermometers at various points through the tank....no matter where they were the temp was the same.....And this was done on my 4 ft (75 gal) tank

That said, having two heaters would eliminate problems if one of the heaters was to fail....thats also why I have 2 filters on each tank too...."just in case"

oh do i agree to that, my power bar was full as soon as i got it.

Two heaters should work fine as long as you dont need the extra plug ins

Well i just hooked up another heater and its working great. My room temp fluctuates greatly. When i used one 200W heater in a 55 gallon tank i had to set the heat 6 degrees hight than i actually wanted it. This works fine til i turn on the heat in the room. The nthe temp goes up 6 degrees. Now that i added the second 200w heater, i can set the tempurature where i want it and it keeps the tank heated to exactly 79 degrees. Right where i want it. Thanks.

I use 2 heaters in my 180L - I found the juwel heater was allowing major temp flucuations as the room heating went on and off. Stuck an Ebo Jager at the other end and now smooooooooth as silk! Happy fishies!!
