Last year I moved to a new house and had an old Mitsubishi rear projection tv that had bad colors so it was retired. However the black/grey wood cabinet was in prestine condition and I thought it was such a waste to throw it away. So I thought about removing the screen and gutting the inside and putting in a shelf level to the bottom edge of the screen so I could get a custiom tank built with exact dimensions as the tv screen and have it mounted flush to where the screen used to be. I imagined it would look pretty neat eg instead of watching tv you watch fish. :D

I never did go forward with that project but am thinking about revisiting it in the future. Has anyone here thought about doing something like that? B)

I have used rear projection cubes for video walls. If your TV is built in a similar manner, I doubt it would support the weight of a large aquarium - the units I've used were quite flimsy affairs.

Yeah that was my thinking that's why I would put some type of stand inside the tv. The cabinet would just be for the shell around the tank.

I agree that you'll probably have to beef up the stand but I like the idea. Same thing happened to me. Our old circa 1980 rear projection 60" TV died so we gutted it, put in a shelf, built a stand, and put a new smaller TV inside it :D. Great idea since those old rear-projections do look like nice pieces of furniature :)
