Hello, someone on this forum advised me to get turbo snails for my 29 gallon FRESHWATER tank. As I didn't have time to go to my LFS today, a friend of mine went and picked them up for me. She said that the guy at the shop told her that they were for SALTWATER, but she bought them anyway. Does anyone know if I can put them in my freshwater tank? Please help, as I've got three snails here in a plastic bag and I don't know what I should do with them.

As far as I've heard from people in other forums and as far as all the information that I've found online...I'm in a mess here. Seems that turbos are very much saltwater snails.

I'm going to keep try to care for them until I can find a proper home for them. Looks like the fish store that they came from is closed until Monday. Why do things like this happen? Someone in another forum told me to put them in a bowl with an air pump and a piece of lettuce. They came in a very small amount of water.

Any other suggestions as to what I should do? I'd appreciate any information that anyone can give me.

take them back asap they will not servive in freshwater :look: or sell them to some who has a saltwater tank :D

Who would tell you to get turbo snails for a FW tank? I have a feeling they're gonna die before you can get them back to the store if you're keeping them in FW, regardless of any air pump or lettuce. If you're looking for snails to eat algae in FW, you need to look for apple snails.

Do u have a link to the previous thread? No way should that person have told u about turbo snails. Id see if you couldnt take them back to the lfs. If you cant do that, do u know anybody with a SW set-up? U could pass them on to them.

I'm not keeping them in a freshwater tank. I've got them in the salt water that they came in and I went out and bought some salt and a small tank to set them up in until I can find a new home for them. Thanks everyone.

What kind of salt?

Oh Boy, I can see how this is going

In fact, don't even answer chk's question. Take them straight back. Don't do anything with salt, or water, or even saltwater. Leave them in the bag. Unless you got the right salt and something to measure sg with, you're going to be in just as much trouble.

Hey Def

I think it is to late as I just noticed the Post start date as 12/05/05, I think the sanils will be in the bin by now
