I have just gotten home from work and first thing is check the fish and feed them.
My clown pleco was out on the side of the tank. So I sneak up and watch him. A good chance to get a look make sure he's eating. And I noticed a red patch low on his abdomen area. And it appears to move as if it's a maggot in there. And there was also a white (bubble) like thing on his side.
Anyone seen this before?

I will add water parameters in a moment
Along with picture and video

The newest additions have been panda cory and IAL with a water change last week.

Ammonia - 0 - 0.25ppm (weekly water change is due)
Nitrite 0ppm
Nitrate - 40ppm (it's comes out our tap at this)
High range ph - 7.4

it's mostly likely a body fluke. Have a read up on gill and body flukes. There will be some places that will show you some ugly pictures that might help you identify it. Once you can identify it you can get him some treatment.

Waterlife do a good gill and body fluke treatment and I think Esha do one aswell. We're a bit thin on the ground here in the U.K for good treatments

Oh gosh not Gill flukes.
I will have a look and see if this matches what I'm seeing. I will also try and get the video and picture up asap

hmm that doesn't look like a fluke. Flukes are white, this looks yellow and I've no idea what the white bubble thing is.

Wait it out and see what the others think, sorry I can't be more help :(

Yeah. It's under his skin and acts like it's a maggot with its movement. The white bubble like thing has red as if it's blood. I honestly have zero Idea on this too. But I thank you for you input :)

it sounds horrible. Could it be a worm? if it's moving about that would suggest a worm of some kind? He does look slender too which could be another pointer to internal worms.
My plec has a big fat belly in comparison to yours but then mine is a common ancistrus and that might have something to do with it!

Hope you can get him sorted :)

He usually is a bit slender. I have wood pellets for him and try blood worm. Tried cucumber and stuff to.
However he has been hiding alot more than normal. As much as it says they hide. My lil guy used to be out and about always used to see him.
But as of late he isn't about. So something is bothering him :(
I will do more research and have a look. Didn't think of worms as such. So thank you for that

if he's acting out of normal character something's not right. My plec is a shy boy and only comes out if I'm sat still on my sofa and there's food about - as soon as I move, or my dog moves he darts back under his wood where he's made a cave. I know what's normal as do you. Go with your gut feeling. Have you had a look on planet catfish for any info there?

Tbh I didn't think anything of not seeing him about. Until now as noticing that on him. I still have time to nip down to my lfs if need be.
Yeah i have been looking around at plecs in particular. But not really found anything yet. I really hope it's curable I love seeing him about :(

if your lfs is trustworthy and like mine - great for advice cos they're all fish keepers in their own right - then it's worth giving them a ring and asking their advice.

They are very trustworthy and are actually fish owners themselves.
They have a quarantine tank within their shop. I'm tempted to go down and show them the video. They usually always can help. If not hopefully someone on here can.

I'd do it. See what they think. You could wait hours for help here

So I went down to see my guys. Ended up taking after hours xD
But theyou think it's some kind of parasite. He did not have his fish disease encyclopedia on him at the time. Though from seeing the video says it looks like a parasite. So I picked up some medication that's a one dose tablet for 115liters and does everything from worms to live ect. But it's not good if you have shrimp as it will also kill them.
Hopefully this does the trick. And if not I do have some internal and external bacteria tablets

Hi again and thanks for the update. I was hoping you'd let me know.  It sounds like they've suggested a broad spectrum medication and that should work. Sometimes we just don't know and the broad spectrum meds are good in these situations. I had one by TAP fish doctor once and it was really good. I've tried to get it again as something to keep in stock but I'm damned if I can find it again!

Ahaha sorry I dashed of after posting that and was at my lfs for a good hour. Yeah it pretty much is. It's actually for ponds which is why it's at such a high dosage. But hopefully this will help.
He's still in hiding at the moment which upsets me. Fingers crossed !

I might have a look see if I can find it in my area for you. I think they had something like that at my lfs
