Hi Guys.
Monitor has failed on my laptop so rather than fork out loads of wonga for a screen, I'm gonna buy a new Laptop.
Problem lies in that I have a great deal of images uploaded to Photobucket, a lot of them are descriptive and are currently being used within TFF and on specialist sites. I dont wish to lose these as some are important pieces of work. So how can I keep the images on photobucket so as they will still remain displayed in their respective websites. Can I use some kind of file transfer to my new computer. Please explain any methods which would allow me to keep the photos intact.
Regards
C

photobucket isnt linked to your computer ,its online storage.... i would tho get a copy ( no idea how ) of the files etc from your broken laptop.. im supposing that the pictures on your hard drive will still be there so see no need for you to worry
not a huge help i know, but i tried :)

Surely if the photo is uploaded to Photobucket then you're free to delete it from your computer anyway?

Photobucket is a photo hosting site so as long as you don't delete them from Photobucket itself ... they'll always be visible where ever you linked them too?

I'd get confirmation of this first though before you go deleting :fun:

I have understood you correctly haven't I? :look:

I was under the impression that if you delete them from your computer then they wont show on the forum.. I may be wrong can anyone confirm

nah theyre stored on online storage i have no pictures on my laptop there all on a memory stick and i upload from memory stick to photobucket then unplug the memory stick so should have no problem

The only reason to keep an original on the laptop is for copyright issues.

But once uploaded it's safe.
You can remove the harddrive though and copy it to another computer though.

Also can you plug a external monitor into the back of the laptop to at least set the harddrive to share to make copying file over a net work much easier.

What has happened with the monitor? is it just black or is it grey or blue?
Do you have any sound?

If you have a TV lead you can attach the laptop to the tv screen, if this works your videocard is still working so it may not be too hard to fix
My brother has just had this problem wih his laptop but it was fixed for under £20 as he simply had a loose cable.

Also as said the images you are using online will be hosted/saved online via photobucket, and will have their own web address,
If you tried to host images straight from your compute, the only computer who could view the images would be yours as the image address would only be relevant to your pc

Yep. Whatever you have UPLOADED to Photobucket or similar site, it stays there on their server.

This might be helpful for you if you want to retrieve any data from your old hard drive and you want to copy it to your new lappy!

Cheers Guys, for your replies
The laptop monitor screen is kaput I'm using a normal 17" screen bolted to the laptop (not good)
I'll get a new lapy with an extra external HDD ad do a file transfer.

The screen recently went on my laptop. All i had to do was replace the cable from under the keyboard to the screen - with opening and closing it so much and the cables being so thin, they easily wear through.

Big C, It's gotta be cheaper to buy a replacement screen, than a new laptop. I've looked into it before and it isnt that complicated.

The only thing to watch with photobucket etc.is a lot of them delete your account/linked images if you dont log in(such as to upload a new image) for a certain time period.

When I did work experience, all the laptop screen issues actually turned out to be either the data cable between the screen and main board, or software. I presume your laptop has a hotkey to set the monitor output you want to use. This can usually be set to none (never understood why you'd want that one), RGB port only, main screen only and both RGB and main screen. It will be linked (usually, not always) to the Fn key, and will be overlayed on another key. It will look like a box, then a / and then you'll either have another box, or the outline of that RGB port you are using for the external screen. Try pressing that and see what happens, you never know, your screen may spring back to life. The shop I did work experience at would charge you £30 for the privilege of doing that if it was the fault

What make & model laptop is it? Take a look for machines of the same make/model on Ebay or similar to see if there are any coming up cheaply for spares or repairs with a working screen (usually, they'll have suffered a hard drive failure or main board failure or been watered to see it they'll grow into a new computer) to get parts from cheaply. Do you know what part has failed?

If you are coming near Leeds again to visit Interfish any time soon, drop me a PM and I may be able to look at it for you while your over this way next. If the screen is dead and you have a suitably sized USB with you, I can get all your stuff off also, without you having to buy anything like a hard drive caddy specially for this (assuming you don't have one already). Note, laptop hard drives are a different size to desktop hard drives, so if you have a desktop or desktop hard drive caddy, you'll need an extra bit to get the laptop hard drive to work in there...

What caused the failure do you know? If it wasn't dropped, watered or subjected to a hard shock e.t.c, I'd be surprised if it is a genuine hardware failure if the data cable still works.

All the best

or the graphics card. Never seen a screen go unless it's been damaged by the user or the bulb inside fails.

Yes if it's IDE, if it's SATA it'll be fine.
