Hi All,

Before I start, Im not sure of recent water params as I cant get to my lfs now - about a week ago, they were all within desired ranges - nitrites 0 etc etc. Ive just replaced a faulty powerhead, and water turnover is fab.

Ive got 2 issues.

The first, is that this afternoon, my water is very cloudy so am starting to panic that I might be having a bacteria bloom...

Second, my temo is 25 - 26 degrees and I keep catching a cluster of mollies around the filter towards the top of the water - right next to where the heater is.

Can anyone give me any explanations or advice on what might be happening?

Thanks in advance x

Hi, without your water stats it is hard to say, you really need a test kit so you can check them yourself when ever you need to.

When you say you replaced a powerhead do you mean just the motor or the whole filter including media? Water turnover is important but not as important as maintaining good bacteria.

I'd say it is a water quality issue, do a water change of around 25-30% now and lay off feeding for 24hours, do another waterchange tomorrow of the same ammount and get your water stats asap. Keep up water changes until you have test results - ask your LFS for actual readings - ammonia and nitrIte should be ZERO and nitrAte under 40 ideally -lower the better for nitrate but ammonia and nitrite are more important. Also check your ph.

What size is the tank and what fish are in there?

Thanks for the reply, it is only the powerhead - not the full filter, but isnt the desired powerhead for particular filter...

Its a fairly established tank, at 140l and community tropicals - have already started the water changes, will carry on and see how it goes

Thanks x

Hmmm, 'community tropicals' can mean anything what is your actual stocking? Anything new recently?

go to your LFS tomoorow if poss and get a test done.. write down the readings and post them here, its very hard to guess whats wrong without them, if its a bloom, then just leave or you`ll feel like youre chasing your tail ( assuming all the tests are ok that is)
personaly im not a fan of mollies at all, they seem to bring nothing but bad news ( to me at least) how long have they been in there and were they all bought from the same store? same batch maybe?

i dont suppose i will ever be able to find this post again as the forum is all change at the moment..i`ll try but if not then good luck, i hope you get it all sorted :)
