Hi all,

I may be upgrading my 120 tank to 240 soon. So i need some tips for about how to move all my live stock to a new tank. the live rock in my current tank is about 10kg, 10-14 corals and 4 fishs. i dont think i will use old sand in 120 tank.

Thing is, i will need to buy more 10-15 kg of new cured live rock and live sand add into my 240tank and also some new stuff like powerhead (need cure?)etc ..

what i can do about the fishs and corals while moving.. ?

do i need to cure the live rock / sand again? can i use the old water from 120 and mix with the new water? how long it will take to stable the 240 and move my live stock in. Any tips will be greatly appreciated!

When I moved my stock from my nano to my five footer i did:

three weeks before move
Bought the extra live rock and cycled it in a holding tank

48 hrs before move:
filled tank with salted water bought from my lfs - I couldn't be doing with making 400 litres of water using my RO unit  brought it up to temp over 24 hours
Put in the extra powerheads required
Put in the skimmer
Put in the new heaters

24 hrs before move:
Tested sg and ph
moved new live rock into tank as the base of my two bommies and then put the new sand around it

Day of move:
Moved most of the rock to the tank, I just carried it across - it was only about 12 feet away!

Put the corals and anemones in a bucket (not all together) and carried them over, a couple I just took out of the water and carried them across

Caught the live stock in tupperware containers and moved them across

Put last bits of live rock on the top of the bommies

Took a few cups of the old sand, sifted it a bit to find the Nass and Dove snails and put in the new tank.

Moved the powerhead out of the nano and into the five footer

Stood back and gave a huge sigh of relief - it really was rather easy and I did it all by myself :fun:

Planning is the key :good:

but the anemone need a at least 6months mature tank to keep it, is it safe to move all the live stock together, just like that ?

do i need to drip acclimatise all the corals and fishs?

what about calcium, magnesium and alk level?

as long as your tank is stable, ie the live rock is all cured, all your stats are equal to both tanks you dont need to acclimatise

as long as the levels are same as the small tank - its fine

Do you have a Nem? I moved my nem from my nano into my five footer - I made sure that everything was equal - you are right when you say you shouldnt put a nem in a tank that is younger than six months, however the only thing that was new in my tank was the sand and i have very little of it! I also had no choice, as I was not going to be running the nano as well as the five footer - i was very careful. One of the main reasons i bought my five footer was for Bill, my nem, there is no way I would have left anything to chance

ps the extra rock I bought from a reefer breaking down a tank, it was never out of water, it had been in her tank six years

ive heard some people said they will wash the sand with RO water before they put into the new tank. is it any differance?

Also some people will add sand first and add water afterwards. wot do u think?
