i want to upgrade my lighting
i don't like this one that came with the tank, it's too "yellow" and that's not helped by the fact there's some tannins in my water from bogwood
i also have some hardy(ish) live plants in there i want to start to give a better life.

HELP
i've never messed with aquarium hardware before

Is that light part of your tank hood?

What kind of tank do you have - the brand/model I mean as I don't recognise the light?

Aside from all that though, you need to get the water clearer - either sit and wait and it will clear eventually if it's just the bogwood leaching, or get some charcoal in your filter if you can - that and a few water changes should give you a much better idea what your light is really like.

Not easy to judge how good your lights are (or not) until you've got clear water!

Hi catxx, Ive got a fitted bulb in my smaller tank like that. When i bought it from the lfs my first worry was were do i get replacement bulbs? But i believe most electrical shops sell these bulbs, it might be worth popping down to your local electrical shop with the bulb. They are easy to get out just four screws to take the cover off and then just pull the bulb out. :good:

I don't think you have a lot of choices given the custom fit hood you have. Maybe a good idea is to try a fresh bulb in case the one you have is a bit 'tired'?

I've had a look and there seems to be one or two on-line suppliers who will be able to offer a bulb of the same type you have (it's described as 'warm glow' by the way!), but there doesn't seem to be any alternative of the same wattage and fitting.

If a new bulb doesn't make any difference maybe you could look at using a couple of the waterproof (submersible, even!) LEDs as well as the original light.

£7.20 for a bulb here
