Unpopular Opinions (fish related)

People who sell aquarium plants? Doesn't mean they know about plants.
Agree! They don’t even know what rhizomes was...

Unpopular opinion:
Discus should not bebkept in bare bottom tank as their natural habitat are blackwater...

Here’s mine

That tank looks stunning, Barry!

Not pulling your leg they all come from a group of fish called Characans. All the tetras have teeth and an adipose Dorsal fin.
Certainly explains why they are such little bar-stewards, then!

And they look like butter wouldn't melt - who knew that the beautiful streak of red was because they had rolled in the blood of their victims . . .

I’m not sure if this in an unpopular opinion or not... or if it’s brought up in thread or not.

Big tank does not necessarily equal big fish.

If you were to give me a, say, 300 gallon tank display, I would probably still make it a planted small fish community tank, just more variety and higher number of each.

It might be the fisherman in me, but I just like keeping small fish. For me, big fish=food.

I'm with ya on this. Yes, I love big fish as much as the next person, but swarms of small schooling/shoaling fish add so much more life to a tank. It feels fuller, more alive.

I actually agree with this tho I didn't originally. I went for bright neon coloured gravel thought it would look awesome ended up hating it and throwing it all away then went with white and brown's hated the white as just always looked dirty . Natural all the way now . X
I have mostly sand or blah colored gravel but each to their own liking. It would be boring if all tanks were merely sand driftwood, and plants. We’d all look the same.

Neons are very peaceful fish if kept in large schoals and large tanks. When I had 6 in a 29G they fought at times. Now that I have 50 in a 55G they all get along. Nothing more beautiful to sit and watch. -Edited-

I can see where it has it's place. You could probably make a really attractive tank if you did it right. I saw a neat tank the other day at one of the LFS. It had color changing LED lights, even blacklight. Although you'll never see a rave tank in my house, I could appreciate a well executed aquascape with lighting and fish that compliment it. If you put jellyfish in something like that it would look like a living lava lamp.

A Spongebob pineapple house, however, is never acceptable.

Big fish also means big bioload! Plus, I don't particularly like them much - things like aronwanas aren't particularly attractive IMO, even though their behaviour might be interesting.

I'm like you - I'd rather have a shoal of 50 tetras darting about than a couple of monsters.
