i have a couple of pics here of some tetras i bought home today but i cant remember the name of them from the pet shop and cant find them in any of the lists ive found (mainly because most lists dont have pics of everything).
Those are Hemigrammus erythrozonus, sometimes known as the glowlight tetra. In every way identical to the neon tetra in terms of care. Like neons, they aren't *especially* hardy, and need soft/acid water to do well. Success in hard/alkaline water seems to be inconsisent; some people have no problems, other people see them die off within a year or two. It possibly depends on where they were collected. Either way, adding blackwater extract to the water (or peat to the filter) is basically essential, because the colours of these fish look *so much* better in dark water than clear water. As with neons, these fish are vulnerable to predation by things like angelfish and catfish like Pim pictus.
