Unknown Hitchhiker In My Tank

bought some off ebay. Going to also feed minimally over the weekend and see if i can get them to die off. People say they are harmless but I think they are ripping my thin leaved plants to shreds. I probably need to be a bit more rigorous with my cleaning in the tank too - it has been a bit slack lately.

If the no planaria doesnt work I may consider looking into the option of setting up a temp second tank so i can clean the main tank.

Just re-read one of your posts jack - I too have 6 assassins who arent touching them. Bought them specially for the job too! (but they do do a fab job at killing pest snails)

Hi

Went back to LFS to see what I could get to help eradicate these limpets - I've been dosing for the last 3 days using eSHa Gastropex - Aqautic Snail Treatment and must say it worked - all the little critters are now gone - took 3 days for them to finally leave and will monitor it over the next week or so - if they come back I will dose again

Hopefully they are gone for good
Cheers for all the advice I got here
Many thanks
Jack

I'd say it has to do a lot with overfeeding. I had them too when I overfed the fry/shrimp tank but they gradually disappeared. Stop using chemicals and concentrate on maintenance and feeding schedule. They've multiplied because they've got a job to do due to an excess of something and killing them all at once will cause problems, ammonia spikes,etc..,also these products aren't that harmless to shrimp if overdosed or not removed correctly afterwards.

I've just put my first dose of no planaria in so I'll see how I go :)

Just put in the 72hr dose of the No Planaria - I *think* its working, I cant see as many shells I don't think. I'll have to dose beyond the initial 72 hours to ensure I get rid of all the shells (packet says you can do so) - so at the moment this product is looking like a fairly good investment :)

Thanks for the advice - going to watch my feeding in the future :)

So today I replaced the carbon filter to remove the treatment - I can defintely say that the vast majority of the limpets have been killed - I think the ones I can still see are dead too as they look quite white. I also sucked up loads of shells off the gravel bed.

How long after putting the carbon filter back in can I put my snails back?

Not too sure how long - maybe five days with a good water change but would seek more advice

Good to hear you've finally got rid of them

Cheers
Jack

I've been told that a few days of having carbon in the tank will have removed any bad stuff from the water but I left it a week and snails are fine.
