Hi all,

As seems to be the norm, the fish shop that supplied our fish seemed more interested in profit than the welfare of the fish.. So got a tank of fish that *even I* know shouldn't be together :)

Identified most, but 2 species remain unidentified...

This one is approx. 7" long, and silver (looks green in photo)

Any thoughts?

Once we know what we have then we can work out what to do with them all....

Thanks in advance

i cant see any reason why these should not be kept together. i have both in my tank! be warned though, the first fish RTBS/ red tailed shark, though only small, max about 7 inches, need lots of swimming room. anything less than 50ukg, but it should be bigger, is too small.

the silverdollar is a red hood silver dollar i have a school of them just so you know they can almost double the size of a normal silver dollar

interesting, how do you id this type of dollar? 2 of mine look exactly the same as the picture, but though only 2 years old are just 5 inches long. nose to tip of tail.

Thanks so much for all the replies! Think we'll find the red tail shark a new home, as he is a little too aggressive with the others!

Many thanks again for all your help.

Its not a red hook silver dollar, red hooks have a long hook shaped anal fin which is bright red, the fish in the picture is a large mature male silver dollar.

Awesome, thanks for the rapid identification! Means we can now ensure we're looking after / feeding all these lovely fish correctly.

It was a shame to find a new home for the red tail shark, but he'd become a bit too aggressive - and looks like he had taken a chunk out of the large male silver dollar in the picture.

just a thought. RTBS can become aggressive, if they have no places to hide. it may be worth trying to sort some caves or tubes, this may calm it down. as i said, it would be a shame to get rid of it if it can be avoided.
