Ill give you the long story, from the beginning.

I got some fish from someone i know.

his tanks are all perfect and he never has any problems with diseases, fungus, anything.

i took the fish put them in a tank,

i seperated the midas red devil mix into its own tank.

after a couple weeks a fungus like stuff started to grow on his body

i treated it with some of the meds on my list(at the bottom of the post)

it started to go away

it was almost gone, then came back

then i noticed stuff growing on the glass and the rocks

then suddenly by its self the fungus on the fish went away

the fungus in the tank, would litterally grow uncontrolled it would get as thick as you let it.

water changes meds nothing works to kill this fungus

some meds seemed to have a little effect in that the fungus would change its properties, but will not kill it

water changes do nothing to help or hurt

while all this is growing the midas look ok

finnally i have spent over $100 on meds

and decidedto take the fish to another tank

i done water changes as frequently as possible to prevent the spores from the fungus to have a chance to attach them selves

when the fish was in that tank the fungus started to attack him again

now it was worse than before and different than last time it atacked him

the first time it just got on him in two spots on his side and grew

the second time it did that and rapidly spread over the rest of his body and even attacked his eyes

after a week of this he couldnt take it anymore, and :rip:

i stopped useing al the equipment because that will spread the stuff to other tanks

i got a new 75g

it has been set up for over a month

clean and clear

somehow i must have touched something from the other tanks and had it on my hands

now it has started to geow in my 75 it is all over the glass an d rocks and wood

it is obvious what i need
so if anyone can help before any more of my fish die

list of meds:

malachite green
formalin
maroxy
maricyn
maricyn 2
and others i cant remember

pictures are not very helpful because it is extremely difucult to see it in pics

You will need an anti internal bacteria med, I once had finrot and tried with salt it didn't work so tryed an anti internal bacteria it cleared sometimes in can be bacterial.

i had the 24hr flex stuff hit one of my tanks... it scared the hell out of me.... i woke up to 3 male guppies who where perfectly happy/helthy the night befoer dead with no tails and half there body "sheding"...... not to mention 3 days of countless young femles dieing every morning.....

first of all it is a fungus.....
if it was a bacteria the meds for the bacteria would have rid of it.
and second, the charcteristics of it match a fungus especially the "flowers" it forms when full gown.

Did they have any patches on there body here is a link for you.

that is not the problem, sorry i did not make that clear.
the problem is the fungus which is virtually immortal,
and grows all over the tank making it uninhabitable.

not even close........try again
not really unless you actually know what this is

Fungus is just really hard to kill because of its cell structure. Ever notice the treatement length for foot or nail fungal infections in humans? ... long time right?

Since I have not had this problem in my own tanks I cant tell you from direct experience, however, I'm currently studying infection and disease processes in school (again this is in humans). So anyway ... the cell structure of a fungus is much more complex than that of a bacteria so an antibiotic will not work on it. You need to keep on a course of medication designed to agressively and specifically treat a fungus. Realise it will take a long time, continue to treate even when you are ready to give up.

You might tear the 75 down and clean it with a 19 parts water to 1 part bleach solution. RINSE RINSE RINSE then RINSE some more then allow to entirely air dry. Get rid of filter media and start your cycle from scratch. You might even run your filter though the bleach solution then rinse with a dechlorinator. Replace your tubing if you can and make a dip solution to use on your nets and other equiptment after use (even if they dont get shared) You might also try using disposable gloves and changing them between tanks as well as washing your hands

This may be extreme but it what I would do if I came across this situation. I've kind of based this idea on how spred of infection is prevented in hospital settings.

good luck

iv ealredy done that with a 20 gallon 10 15 and 40
and many filters exc....

but that will not work

and, i cant clean the fish with the bleach!

now it is spreading it is in another 40

my red devils trimacs and texas are all not doing well

i doubt the trimacs will make it throught the week
if through wednesday, it is really having an adverse effect on them

and it has gotten to uncontrollable levels in the 75
i have to clean it twice a day to keep it from building up

and the type that is on the glass....a whole other story

still no cure

i found this post in another forum and it had no useful replys,
it describes one of my problems better that i can.

Sorry, no pics, too small to see anyways..

Past week or so I've had an appearance of white spots all over the frontal glass and sporadically on some plants. It does take a couple scrubs to get it off with an algae pad, and it does appear to grow on the glass. I had been battling a green water battle for probably 2 months, and had finally cleared it up by doing bi-weekly 50%+ water changed (with tap water which is hard & alkaline ).

I had a sudden outbreak of cyanobacteria, which still appears to be going on, but then this white crud came up. I'm familiar with seeing the fuzz that can grow on rotting things, like driftwood, etc, but have no idea what this is. It almost looks like a bunch of tiny white flowers coming from a central area where it attaches. It's not hydra's either.

Reminds me of this:

Water is clearer than ever, and I am doing a bi-weekly 25% water change. Everyone appears to be alot healthier since the green water, and I feed only right before I do a water change. 110 watts over a 20 long, no filtration, just a powerhead w/ a DIY co2 injector on it. Tank has been setup for approx 3 months, heavily stocked. No egg laying snails. Only egg-layers I might have 'pairs' of are oto's and corry's.

Any ideas? I've wiped it off the glass, yet it comes back, so it woud seem 'alive'. No salt is used, no chemicals, no fertilizers, nothing, just a sprinkle of food and 5 gallons of water twice a week

Yhey say a true fungus is hard to cure, search the net only could come up with treatments for ponds.

Maybe one of these links will help you out.

I think I would take the fish out of the tank and put them in individual hospital tanks and Nuke the tanks that are affected completely. I would treat the fish until the fungus is completely gone, It could take 2 rounds of treatment cycles with antibiotics and anit-bacterial/fungus medications.

Here are a few links for Fungus meds

Just be sure to continue treating for the reccommended time frame..and don't discontinue treatment whenit apears the fungus has cleared up.

 goodluck

I recommend taking everything out of the tank and cleaning with Vinegar. Start over.

Thanks SRC, for the links

i have done that, taking the fish out and cleaning
but, even though the stuff is not living on the fish it is in the water, and in the fish.
unless i cooked the fish before i put it in another tank, it will just start over again.

and the death tool is up to 25

all 10 of my dovii
my midas/red devil
a black round convic (my best male)
and too many pink convics too count

i have a grave yard by my house now.
i cant flush all the fish. too big
