Uk Foods

I sent stuff to someone in Canada and she sent stuff to me and we had no problems. Customs will only destroy it if they know the exact contents ;) If it's marked as "Gifts" they are unlikely to check and if they do, they'll just destroy it then :)

The FDA is American and yes, they are very strict with their policies. Canada, however...not so much lol We're like the "hippy" free-for-all little brother to the north :fun:

My sister in law gets boxes of food sent from her dad in England all the time. There hasn't been any issues that I know of yet.

On the chocolate note, I do believe I would kill for a packet of Vice Versas... Damn you Nestle!!! Damn you and your 'high production costs and little interest'!!! And also damn the makers of Chewits for not making ice cream flavour any more... or green cola, which I swear I bought once...

America are very strict. I had some apples arrested at customs once.

We'd been to Mexico, from Texas, and we'd taken some food with us, not only for the Greyhound ride, but for when we got there so we didn't have to eat all unknown foods. Among our possessions, were a bag of apples. They came with us in our bag and stayed in the hotel for a week, then came home again - almost.

At the border, the customs officer arrested my apples, I tried to explain they were American apples that had been on holiday but he held up his hand and said "Stay out of this ma'am" and I almost laughed until I saw Dan making a "shut up!" face at me. Apparently, you don't make fun of the Border Guards in mirror shades.

Poor apples!

I live right on the border of America and go over there all the time to fuel up my truck. Quite the people they are...the border patrol

Well, technically they were confiscated but I like to say it like that, that's what I said as we walked away, I was really offended, I said to Dan "That man arrested our apples" and he never let me forget it

For the Americans - authority figures in the UK are generally quite happy to argue the toss if you have something you want to say, whereas the bloke with the gun wasn't going to have any of it - and I can see his point, don't get me wrong, but it's a fun story to repeat :)

My other favourite story of my experience of living in TX, was when I went to do the shopping on my own one day, and when they were running it through the checkout, the girl said to me "Paper or plastic" and I had no idea what she meant, I thought she wanted to know how I was paying, so I said "cash" - for the UK people who have not had that experience yet.....when they say paper or plastic, they are asking you what kind of shopping bag you want your groceries packed in to carry them home. Now you will never feel as stupid as I did when I realised.

m&s chocolate tea cakes yuummmmm. i can't remember if i was in the US or Canada but i since had some marshmellows stuffed with chocolates inside. anyone know what i'm talking about?

I don't know about chocolate stuffed marshmallows, but we have chocolate coated marshmallows called Viva Puffs. Those are yummy.

It amazes me how different even Canada and the US are, I've never heard of half the stuff you were talking about Jaiden.

Tucan, we have a chocolate covered marshmallow cooking here called Mallomars. http://www.nabiscoworld.com/Brands/Product...duct=4400000674

And then are the ever popular Peeps as Easter and other holidays. Disgusting if you ask me.

Hershy's produces most of our popular candy bars, and then there's Mars and Peter Paul.

Hershy bar, Hershy bar with almonds, Butterfinger, Mounds (dark chocolate w/coconut, yum), Almond Joy, Twix, Rolo, Snickers, M&M's, all that good stuff.

Out of curiosity, do you guys get SPAM in the UK or Canada? My mom loves it, but I'd sooner throw up than even smell the stuff. It's so popular in the US that it has it's own websites, and even cooking contests.

I am heartbroken, one of our greatest "War foods" - I never knew Spam was American. I told Dan, he already knew.

I don't want to talk about it.

What a very interesting topic, I love food from all over the world and quite often order from websites that sell food from not just the UK but US, Canada, Africa & Australia it's mainly chocolates & sweets :D My husband is addicted to reeses cups / nutrageous & tootsie rolls. Luckily he knows a few of the americans on the air base so he can get some stuff from them but when he wants a big order we order from one of our many online sweetshops, we are a pair of big kids :D

I'd post links to them all but not sure if it's allowed? I'd be happy to send via PM if anyone's interested

Another US thing - LAYS Crisps. So much better then uk crisps.
Went thru loads of packets of the stuff when i was on holiday in India (its the only crisps hat most places sel there)

We get SPAM here in Canada. It's not very popular, though

I just sent a package of about 20 chocolate bars to my brother in law in San Diego. There are a LOT of chocolate bars Canada has that the US doesn't. Same with chip (or crisp) flavors.

dthoffsett, have you ever watched a show called "Just For Laughs: Gags"? They've recently started showing it in the US. It's filmed in Quebec, kind of like a Candid Camera show. When they do skits in corner stores, they actually blur out the items in the store (chips, chocolate bars, etc). It's like they're hiding all our Canadian goodies from Americans  If you want to try some Canadian chocolate bars (they ALL taste better than US, trust me ) I'd be happy to send you a few! It'd be cheap to send to you because I could make the 5 min drive into Michigan and ship them from there...no international shipping charges :hey:

Lays are very good crisps  In Canada, we pretty much have Lays and Humpty Dumpty...then the "no name" brands
