one of my regular shops. Pretty standard stock, but recently more diverse with zebra plecs for £35 and a number of puffers. Owner knows pretty much what he's on about and water testing is free.

Can order in pretty much anything you want, owner is very knowledgeable although tends to overestimate the fish capacity of tanks if asking for stocking suggestions. Shop itself needs upgrading but ive never bought a bad fish from here (and i'm putting a bid in to buy the shop next year!!!!!!)

Family run shop with pond fish as well as tropicals, coldwater and limited marines. Owner is nice enough and helpful. Often ill fish still in tanks, used to be a favorite, but getting more wary of stock quality.

I will start off by naming the fish shops that I frequently use:

World Of Water (Witminster)
Variety: 8
Quality: 9
Staff: 9

http://www.worldofwater.co.uk/

I live in brockworth so my lfs is "The Aquatic Habitat"
But i perfer world of water for somethings, guess its because im going to be working there in october and i have family working there :p, Plus they have a nice range of plecs and can order in lots of different fish :D.

Bias :p :p :hey:

Just my opinion but I think the staff at World Of Water were pretty unhelpful and also the tanks are really badly signed. Also fish are all mixed up and the tanks are really dark.

Its good for accessories but I wouldnt buy fish from there unless there was something rare I couldnt find anywhere else.

Ben

I got to agree with Ben on this one - The staff at Aquatic Habitat are really knowledgable and helpful! Plus the fish are always in perfect condition! Though ive only been to world of water a couple of times, and that was a few months ago now! Aquatic Habitat isnt technically my LFS, but thats where i go :)

Aquatics Habitat is still my favourite for staff service and variety although the Swindon branches of Maidenhead Aquatics have more stock and more common varieties.

World Of Water just doesnt compete im afraid :(

Ben

Indeed, you are probably right, in World Of Water the tanks are dark, and quite frankly pritty small.

I havnt had a problem with staff at World Of Water, and i have never seen a dead fish in any of there tanks.

Some of the staff at Aquatics Habitat, seem to be be really enjoying there job, NOT! and look grumpy and are unhelpful.

But there tanks are bigger and some staff are very helpful! but yet every time i go there i see dead fish in alot of there tanks :-(.

Oh yeh forgot to mention, "Jess" was saying fish are always in great condition well one of my sword tails has parts of his fin missing probably from a hungry fish while he was in the tanks at Aquatics Habitat. Any how theyre still my lfs, and reasonably good.
The next lot of fish i will be getting will be from World Of Water though, because they seem to have a wider selection of plec's, and also my cuzen is the one who deals with getting fish imported etc.

I have never had an unhealthy fish from Aquatics Habitat and I find the advice friendly and helpful, but they do see me alot so they have gotten to know me a bit... I guess it varys, there are a couple of crap staff there but on the whole they are very good.

None of them had any signs of desease all were perky, however there were a few bettas in what looked like glorified jars; no heater or filter.
