I have a feeling it sucked up some spangles when I took the pre-filter off to clean it.
Argh

I also run a 20 gal Aquarium co-op sponge filter in there, and I am so glad I do. I turned the air up, so at least my fish are getting some water movement.

can you open it and see whats inside?
try to hook that out or something

My husband just took it completely apart, cleaned it, and it's still dead. ugh

A local fish store sells the Tidal Filter, and I'm thinking of getting one. I'm hoping that the flow is more adjustable than the Aquaclear, as that is the one feature that sucks, imo. I could barely see a difference at all, and I like to slow the flow of water when I feed.

Thanks for your advice!

If you can’t figure out what’s wrong with it, the Seachem Tidal is an excellent replacement.

I have a Tidal 35 on my 29g saltwater tank, and it works wonders!

Did he check the compartment with the impeller? Usually something is preventing it from moving.

When you plug it in, are you hear/feeling nothing? Or do you hear it trying to run, but no water is coming out?

This only happens when the filters have not been maintained (cleaned) properly.

If it has been thoroughly cleaned (especially the motor unit and the impeller, removed to clean and replaced), try reassembling the unit, filling it with water, and plugging back in...then, take a long, thin, pointed object, and give the impeller fin a nudge...should start right back up.

These filters need to be cleaned monthly to perform properly.

We hear nothing. And, yes, he took everything apart and cleaned the impeller. It's dead.

I would contact the company you bought it from, and try to get a replacement unit. (Assuming it is still under the warranty)

If not, the Tidal is a excellent option.

I've already got the Tidal 55 running, and I'm very pleased with it so far. I love how the water flow is so adjustable, and the media basket is even bigger than the AC 50, so I'm happy. :)

I love the media basket and how big it is. You can also pull it out and set it on the bottom of the lid for a no-spill transfer to the sink!

Cool!

I'm putting some polishing media in, so should that go at the bottom, middle or top? Although I do a pretty good job keeping the tank clean, the corys sure do stir up stuff into the water. :(

What do you mean by polishing? (Floss or ceramic?)

Floss will definitely help get rid of that debris that the Corys are stirring up.

What all do you have in there?

I think we should be careful, here.

By stating that "this only happens when it has not been cleaned properly" and "these filters need to be cleaned monthly to perform properly"; you are creating a scenario where these things are "always" true. In reality, they are not. Additionally, we have no way to know what the cleaning schedule is of the OP and this makes the assumption that they never clear/maintain it, which is why the problem exists.

Sorry to hear that the motor burned out (at least, this seems to be what happened)! Glad you like your new Tidal purchase!
