I've been browsing fish books and online fish sources for about a month now, and I simply can't decide on what to put into my 55gal planted aquarium. It currently
houses five otos and one SAE for algae control, and one yoyo loach for snail control. (I read on one site that these guys like company, should I get a couple more of them?)

I was thinking maybe some dwarf gouramis (I'm not clear though if I can get like 10 of one kind and just have that stock the tank, or if I should stick to just a couple of one kind due to aggression, I know you aren't spusta mix types), or even just a couple schools of tetras. Then I was also liking the idea of maybe a few angles...Or pairs of something I could separate into another tank and breed (after breeding corys and yellow labs I'd like to try something harder, since they practically do it on their own)

So...any ideas? :D

I thought most ciclids either got rather large, or liked lots of caves. I'd really prefer to have a large number of smaller fish, and I don't want to add a ton of rock structure to the tank...I know Rams stay pretty small, but aren't they difficult to acclimate?

Nope, cichlids are the easy way to fish keeping and also add alot of color to your tank, theres no need for caves and crap with the fish that i have mentioned.

Alright, thanks, I'll start reading up a bit to see which I like best. :D (I'm still open for other ideas though guys, so if there are any other suggestions please add them B) )

Yeah, why not have some shoals of tetras? They are very beautiful peaceful fish! Maybe some cardinals, neons or rummy-nosed tetras. Chilids are nice fish to keep but tetras will add lots more variety and they won't stay hiding all the time! I find these are a very good fish to have! :D And rams are ok. I do have some and they've been fine. But with tetras you can also keep angels. (Maybe the ??? scalare? They don't grow as big! You may find that any different angels will eat any other fish that they can fit into their mouths!) :p

Don't angels eat tetras though? Or was it just neon tetras?

my rams dont hide, they never hide  in fact i like them a hole lot more then my tetras, rams bring color, tetras too but u can them both in your tank, angels will eat tetras, ones small enoough to fit in their mouths
