Trojan Brisv A!

Depends on the distro Linux is a very broad term there are 1500+ stock operating systems which come under the umbrella term of linux and I know several people that have written there own linux distros so bit of a sweeping statement. Which ones have you tried?

I would reccomend to a newbie to try the bigger ones like:
Pc linux OS
Mint
Ubuntu <-- I loathe ubuntu but its a good starting point as the community is so large.
Fedora
gOS (nicknamed "google OS" but not affiliated with google directly)

I use maryan quite a lot and its a goody. The main problem with linux in general is that there is no clear goal of an OS they always seem to be in development and not have the feel of a finished product like Windows or OSX

Suit yourself not going to force it on you but the majority of the ones that I listed are live cd's so you don't even have to install it to your computer runs straight off the disk (although it is a bit slower due to the limitations of a cd/dvd media read speeds. Having a cd preburnt with one is always good for diagnostics if your computer dies and you are unable to use your normal OS

It's Linux Red Hat at Uni, Windows XP at home. I will be converting to Linux Red Hat over Easter though, as it's easier to use and manage than MS software, as well as being more stable and secure :good: (IMO at least)
