Thanks in advance :)

yep, definitely trilineatus, the chances are fish labelled as "julii" in your regular LFS are trilineatus, 99% of the time, julii are very rare and extremely hard to come by, and the only chance you would have of finding them would be via a specialist corydoras shop or breeder. But as well as basing the identification on chance, c.trilineatus and c.julii have appearance differences, you will notice that trilis' marking are a series of very dark, almost black squiggly lines, some going all the way across or along the body, it differs between fish, wehereas julii, are much more spotty as opposed to liney, and the colour of the spots ia usually a lighter colur, more of a brown.

hope this helps for future reference.

Good luck getting true julii. Short of going down to South America and picking them out yourself, it seems nearly impossible to get them.

there are importers that can get them for you, I know someone and I almost got some julii from him to breed, not bad price either. But I didnt due to lack of funds and tanks.

I may be exaggerating, but not by much. Even the importers sometimes can't tell the difference.

no way - that means i've got C. TRILINEATUS too!
ah well they're still very cute

aye, they are one of the most miss-identified coryspecies, there are three species very similar:

- C. Julii
- C. Trilineatus
- C. Leopardus

Leopardus and Trilineatus are more or less the same, as they have the same networked markings, unlike Julii that has dots.
Julii is very similar to a variant of Trilineatus, which instead of having the networked marking it has dots.
In both cases Trilineatus has dark brown, almost black, marking where as Julii and leopardus have light brown markings.

Well i got these cory's on Saturday which were marked up at Julii, but after looking at the pic in the first post i think mine are probably Trilineatus too ?

my lps had something and I am going back to check it out. Every year they have a big blow out sale and import all kinds of fish. They had some spotted cories. I think they were labeled as julii. They may have been labeled Swartzii I didn't make a not of it. But if they are still there Wed, I will pick up a group of what ever they are. :fun:
