hmm i'm looking to buy more cories...and... i am willing to spend $30

which of these options would u choose?:

Option A:

$30 for 3 Sterbai cories

Option B:

$20 for 10 skunk cory
$10 for 10 Pepper Cory
Total: $30 for 20 cories

it's true that sterbai is more beautiful, and peppered an skunk arnt as beutiful, my brother said that even IF they are UGLY, in a school, they will looks pretty

so, what do you say? they are on discount btw the skunk and pepper

IMO, $10 is a lot even for sterbais but I don't see them too often so I'd get them or maye the Skunks, which aen't too common around here either.

oh, and i already have 9 sterbai cories...

so..should i make it into a huge school..or...more variety

nooooooooone said that they are ugly..my bro said even IF they are, they would still looks beautiful in a school :p

OOH and the tank is 55 gallons

i have:

9 sterbais
2 elegans
3 julii

so i think adding to the collection is a good idea ..esp for that price :) but like to see other oppinions

I also want to breed corys other then sterbai, and i have an extra 10 gallon, it was suppose to be for the sterbais, but one is enough.

I was thinking at first, I would go for quantity because those sterbais sound too expensive. I have never bought a fish for that much. Then i was thinking maybe if I had the money I would spend it on a less common fish, but then I thought, well I would really feel bad if i bought an uncommon fish and it died, so as a sort of beginner, I would probably not get the more expensive fish. Then I thought, well, I've never had a cory die on me yet, so maybe it would be good to get something special, and besides, if they had to go in one of my tanks, i wouldn't have room for more than 3 new cories anyway, so I finally voted for other, because if it was me, I wouldn't get that many, and I'm not sure I would spend that much all at once anyway, unless I had more money and space and time and all. If i did, I probably would. Then I read that you already have a few anyway, and then my opinion was definitely diversify. I'm sure a big school of all the same kind of fish would look neat, but personally, I think I'd prefer a mixed school or diffferent schools.

Yeah $30 for the sterbais seems a little pricey. I don't know the skunks, but 10 peppers would be awsome--they are busy little fellows. I think I would go for variety first and enlarge a group later if I still wanted to.

I am planning to get 5 peppers for $24. But I'm getting 8 otos for $12. Immature Peppers are $3 apeice at my lfs.

That sounds like a good price on the peppers and the skunks too

thank you guys for your reply

guppler: woah you got all that goin on in your head? you got a head ach? :fun:

i guess 10 peppered is a school and 10 skunk is a school on it's on too, and a large one too, maybe their price...is so small..made me feel like the school is small..i was just dreaming on how the tank will look with 3 schools of corys, sterbai, peppered and skunk + a few others, that would look awsome :D

jollysue: woah the peppered cory are very expensive over there, :p but the ottos are very very cheap, if they were that price over here, i would've got some :)

My lfs charges like 3 for $3 for everything common, unless it's very small (other than otos.) Very young and small are 3 for $5. I paid $1.66 for my 2 baby peppers. But I had not seen them before nor since--even in PetSmart or PetCo. Same thing with the otos, BN, and hatchets (other than silver.) So my catalog/online supplier just notified me of a 2" colorful hatchet in stock (wild caught I think :( ) Because of the shipping, I decided to get some fish I've been watching for and not been able to find :BN, otos, and peppers. Some prices are good and some are high in the deal. If I could figure out for sure what my other three cories are I might get them, too. I want some of everything--except more serpaes. :<

Do what appeals to you Kevin007, but 20 fish for $30 is awesome.

Where is T.O.?

20 fish for $30 is indeed awsome and not a everyday deal, the skunks are only for this month for that price. The problem is that i am moving next month, even i cant assure that they will all make it safely from all that stress, you know? Maybe you would like some sterbai cories, if you can get a good deal, i HAVE been able to get 5 for $30, and now that i've thought about it....that expensive too, i could agot 20 cories  and T.O. is Toronto, Canada

Which is your picture? He/she is handsome. I think Sterbai and the Swartz may be a little more $ here as adults in my lfs than the more common cories (whatever those are). But I'm not sure; maybe not? I have 3 that were sold as punctatus. Inchworm helped me id my peppers my first post on the forum (I was told they were spotted) , but so far all I've figured out is what the 3 are not. They are definately NOT punctatus. They are one of the spotted with the mask and dark dorsal. But they have slight variations from all the ones I've found pictures of. They are much more shy than the peppers. I like the peppers. They're cute and visually busy. I see Sterbai and Swartz in my lfs all the time. But the little peppers were sold out fast. My others are handsome but hide more. Until I got them in the big tank I hardly ever saw them.

How will you move your stock? I've wondered how that is done. With lots of little plastic bags? :dunno: :S I imagine one of the really important things is the acclimation process. Big job to get everyone taken care of while your're trying to take care of yourself. Almost an all day thing by itself with all the attention it takes to do right. Let us know how it goes.

yup i will, it'll be mid august when i move. The tank is going to be a guppy and cory only tank, my guppies dont even eat baby cories...maybe it's cause they are baby themselves..oh wait..they are old enough to give birth.. Anyways the cories will not eat guppy fry neither will the guppies, therefore the 55 gallon tank will be filled with around 100 guppies of all sizes, and wait for them to mutliply and it's cool to see now the colors from each generation changes, my fish are all red tho, i'm going to buy some lyretail, some blue guppies, maybe albino , snakeskin guppies ( whole guppy) etc and maybe i can become a breeder for petstores, who knows, maybe i can even breed a new guppy color :p I also want to breed other cories instead of my sterbais, i have made money off of sterbai cories tho, quite alot $3 ea :D

So, back to the tank moving, i got kinda off topic there. One of my 10 gallons cracked ..and i had to take all the water out gravel..fish out around 50 fish, and all, and i know the pain, so the next day i got a new 10G from warrenty. Incase my tank cracks again...i'm lowing the water level a little bit at a time( if you look at my new thread in member's aquarium pictures) and hopefully, the tank would be able to handle the moving, instead of taking out 100% water, and filling back it up again :)

So, my fish will all be gone except for my cories and guppies, which will be easy to bag, i plan to leave around 10% water in my 10G fry tannk incase i dont scoop up all the fry.

All the ornaments will be taken out. The gravel will be in a buket with a little bit of water to keep the bacteria alive..HOPEFULLY. 50% of the tank water will be kept in multiple buckets and when i get there, i'll fill the tank up asap, putting the cories in the fry tank for 1 day and the 55 gallon will be cycled in no time, like the next day..HOPEFULLY, and i'll put all the fish in there, done. IT'll be alot of work.

Sorry for that LONG and BORING post

The tank is just ONE of the problems, i still gotta set up the bed frames, set up the rooms, etc + i gotta set up the basketball net too :S It'll be hard work, but i'm used to it

Okay I sometimes try to do this at my all night job. It is okay if I do, my computer, my server, use of time not a problem. But sometimes strange things happen. I just hit backspace and found myself back in the forum catfish topic page. My post is wherever socks go.

Which cory is in your signature??

Why are you up so late or early or what? I haven't taken time to check your time zone.

Did you want more Sterbai to enlarge your breeding gene pool? Otherwise you will have more, right? Maybe you could trade some of your cory's offspring for lfs's and increase your gene pool that way.

I will make a point of checking your pics in the morning. I'm on a regular dial-up line. It's too slow. As a matter of fact I have to watch it or I will get kicked off and lose whatever I am working on here. :hyper: :grr:

I am thinking that I should wait for the cories. That price is high. I could get the Long Fin Albino plecs and breed them. They are pricey (a little shy to say how much :*) ) but marketable. Then I could also get the otos--a good price--and the hatchets--an ok price. Then we can go into business. :p right back at ya!

Yeah I don't envy the move--or maybe I do. I want to sell my place and get something smaller. It's all too much to keep up any more. Only it's so much work. Sigh
