Hi,so sorry to hear for your loss. How old was your heater? The ones most likely to fail are brand new ones or very old ones.
The only heaters I trust are Visitherm. I 'd never buy any other brand as I've heard lots of horror stories. They've been voted best heaters several years' running by PFK magazine. They're very accurate and reliable. They're usually dearer than other makes but I've just ordered a 150w one for £11.99 brand new from an Ebay seller.
They want me to send them the heater, will do i also asked for them to send me an S.A.E becuase im not payng for it. My next mail will be asking for a new heater (which i will sell as il never use them again) and to find out what the problem was
I'd recommend people buy a digital thermometer which has a probe that dangles inside the tank. It also has an alarm which you can set and it bleeps if the temperature drops to a certain level or rises too high!! I tested it could hear it bleeping upstairs in bed so would hopefully alert me if a heater thermostat stuck. Not much good if you're out but worth having imo and it's very accurate. Was only £8.99.
