Tonic Salt

Neither, to be honest. You should use an effective med rather than salt to treat ills.

When it comes to setting up a brackish tank, marine is far superior to tonic.

Salt can be effectively used to treat gill flukes, although i agree using a med is the best option, certain fish (like mormyrids) can not always be treated with certain medications (mostly those containing stuff like copper) for certain ills, so salt has to be used instead.

Either salt is fine as a short term measure for treatment (though buying pure sodium chloride such as is used in animal feed or for human consumption saves on inflated lfs prices).

Marine salt has somewhere in the region of 75-80% sodium chloride, with the rest being a myriad different things (such as magnesium, strontium etc.) over 70 other elements and minerals in all. Also, marine salt will buffer the pH and KH up towards the levels experienced in brackish and marine environments.

tonic salt is used to create brackish set ups
Only by people without the slightest bit of knowledge about what brackish water is. Brackish is part FW and part SW, meaning you need marine salt for it.

Tonic salt is a hang up from the bad old days of fishkeeping when water changes were considered bad, and also because people do not understand quite how FW fish deal with the difference in salt levels of their internals and the water around them (osmoregulation). In an lfs, tonic salt should be placed with the snake oil IMHO.
im fully aware of what brackish means  , i must admit though i only use this stuff for sterilizing equipement and tanks, works wonders :good:

cheers guys very informative as usuall :)

i not going 2 bother now as i would apparently upset some of my other fish doing it ,my mollies are very happy the way it is anyways but i thought i would just ask

You can get liquid vitamin/mineral supplements for fish from some lfs, these will help the mollys get their minerals stuff without having to use the salt (they're not as good as salt, buts its better using such supplements in place of salt that not using any at all) .
