Today I Went To My Favourite Lfs And...

I was very restrained, only spending ~30 mins there!

Looked at the Panda Garras, these are growing on me to stock (Myanmar origin).
Looked at the Humphead Glassfish again, still really fancy them (Myanmar origin).
Looked at the Steatocranus again, still want him/her.
Looked at the Giant Danios again, better half loves them, I'm swaying towards them.
Looked at the Rhomb Barb, still unsure.
Looked at the Vietnamese Golden Sucker, still fancy them, will suit the flowing water current.
Looked at the one remaining African Bushfish in with a Tropheus Moori morillo, still like the idea of homing him/her.

...But I came home with a giant tub of Tetra Prima slow sinking pellets, in an attempt to get the Opsarius eating (they were fed these for ~7 months), plus a gravel filter which made a ~25% water change very easy just before lunch! (I think the Opsarius are starting to forgive me now, having come out from behind the bogwood).

I've found Maidenhead Aquatics to be pretty rubbish  although one day I did meet a very attractive Frenchman who talked me through CO2 and ferts for my planted tank :hey:

Is this the Maidenhead Aquatics near Reading? The french chap there is very good. Always take time to chat to me when I come in. He likes his Geophagus (like me!)..

Sunday evening I went to my local Petco to "look" at fish. They had a tank of Red Tiger Platy's and only one was left and he was precious and I had seen him there a couple days before so he must have eluded being seen (due to being a juvenile) He has a white body and blotchy red stripes and black fins and a black gonopodium! I've looked online for one that looks even vaguely similar to him and have not. He's pretty unique. So I got him and because I didn't have any other platys I got a blue platy somethingoranother that isn't actually blue. It's more silver with a reddish tinge and she's a girl. :)

And then Monday (yesterday) I did some browsing on aquabid, but can't buy what I want yet so just browsed only. XD

Today (well yesterday actually !) I went to one of my LFS and came home with ................

.............. 3 x Geo. surinamensis !

Chuffed as f##k with them. This morning they have settled in a treat with my 3 x Sevs and 2 x threadfin acaras (and the other bits and pieces). The geos seem to be great characters and really shoal together.

The negative part is that I will be needing to significantly upgrade from my 300 once these all get a bit bigger (all between 3 and 4" at the moment)! Plans for a 4x2x2 (or even a 5x2x2) towards the end of the year. Just got to work out how to pay for it.

And bought 2 Botia Modesta (think they're modesta, kinda like a silver/blue/grey with orange/red finnage)

One i thought was missing an eye, at a longer look his left eye is almost closed, i assume it was damaged from a very early age

And i am keeping him, if i took it back for an exchange they'd only get rid of it i guess which aint too nice, had a koi many many years ago who lost an eye, he lived fine n dandy and i eventually sold him for breeding :)

Ohh i also got 2 pakistani loaches, lovely striped markings but a very juvenile size, but of course i'm hoping they grow into lean mean snail munching machines lol

Cheers

Tony

Came back with six Yellowtail Congo Tetras (Alestopetersius caudalis), four males and two females hopefully, from Aquajardin!

Currently drip acclimitising as I write since 1545, hopefully will be able to post some flashless photos later tonight or tomorrow...

Pretty sure my next additions will now be three or four Dennisons Barb, after seeing them on sale for £16 a pair (way undercutting other Southampton stockists), instead of six "Orange Ringed Barb" (Puntius rhomboocellatus).

They came in last Wednesday apparently, didn't spot them during my brief visit on Saturday.
As to my other planned fish: Steatocranus tinanti (?) was very shy today, hiding away from the catfish; African Butterfly was looking good; likewise the Leopard Bushfish; the six Humphead Glassfish; the Panda Garra; the Striped Headstanders.

Gorgeous new 18"+ Fire Eel now in stock; few Oscars too.

Here's a couple of flashless pics, as promised... ;)

There appears to be an honary member to the Tetra group, the submissive Opsarius! Five of the Yellowtails and the honary member are boldy going nowhere, swimming frantically into the back wall inbetween the Ludwigia Glandulosa and a bunch of Cambomba! Its quite comical, might get a video clip before it stops...

Went to my local PETCO where I get half of my fish supplies. Needed test strips to test the water and...

I adopted a cat. :lol

I had intentions of adopting him, but the funny thing is. I forgot the test strips!!!

My bf and I saw him last week when we went in for a gravel vac and he couldn't stop talking about the cat so I contacted the rescue and met them yesterday morning to sign paperwork and take him home. I think it's funny because he was called Sebastian and all I can think about is Sebastian that red crab off of Little Mermaid.

And he loves the fish...

So I have to go back again for test strips.

And bought 4 zebra loaches :)

The lfs is keeping another 2 for me til saturday (only popped in for a nose around, so was chuffed when i saw the zebras, alas no cards on me and little cash hence 4 of the l'il cuties)

Never seen them in before at this lfs so i had to have !!

No idea on names yet, but they are sized from 2" to just around a 3"

They have 'latched onto" the 2 pakistani (yo-yo) loaches (need to find some more yo-yo's now)

The smallest zebra is watching me as i type this lol, now a yo-yo joined in and they are slowly moving forwards sifting for food, edit that, i have a loach food scrounge convoy going, zebs/clowns/yo-yo's, he he this is funny, now the redtail sharks took the lead

Dang i love loaches

Tony

i havent gone in about a month lol im moving so...

  • Bought 3 Dennisons Barb (just added to QT)
  • Bought 3 Panda Garra (currently acclimitising before going in QT)
  • 2 sqaure meshes of moss plus two small pieces of bogwood with moss/plant integrated, all for QT
  • Ordered an Eheim 2078 plus media, price matched £300 I'd seen online
Going to be a fun week's annual leave!

Apparently they are expecting a Congo shipment this week, all being well, that will include various Steatocranus species and Pelviochromis nudiceps (a relative of Kribensis).

Missed out on the final Bushfish by ~10 seconds, as another member of staff was netting it for another customer, after the final one being there with the Tropheus for ~3 weeks! However, they are expecting a group of these in the Congo shipment, so panick over.

There's now ~dozen African Butterfly in a tank, looking very graceful until one drifts into another, setting off a domino effect of aggressiveness.

Even saw one swimming near the tank base, presumeably having just had a squabble.

Some gorgeous Jewel Cichlids are new along with tiny Bumblebee Goby; Geophagus; a bunch of guppies that have taken over the old marine section.

Went over to Cadnam yesterday and amongst their fish, they had two grogeous Black Arowanas and a mixed group of Barilius (the fin dorsal finned one with blotchy black/white are stunning in my opinion). Here's a couple of small video clips taken with my Veho Muvi minicam for your pleasure...
