Hi Guys, I got a tank second hand off ebay, and it's the RIO 240 It comes with it's own filter built into it, as I'm sure you guys know. I also received an Eheim Pro II 2028 (it's huge and amazingly quiet). I have cleaned out the Eheim filter and left it running in the bath tub for 24 hours as the filter was used for a marine setup. I have also requested new sponges from my LFS. I also took out the innards of the filter for the Juwel tank and washed and rinsed with hot tap water (ordered new innards for the filter from LFS), also to get rid of the salt from the previous set up. Now that they are both ready to go, is it worth using both filters, my fish that i have at the moment is 7 x Black Neons, 2 Khulie Loaches, 2 x Small Angels, 2 x Bristle nose Plecs, 2 x Kribs, 5 Platies Waiting to be transfered.
Should I use both filters or is just one OK (the Eheim). Can I remove the one in the Juwel so I can get more space. Or should I leave it in there for when I add more fish? What are your opinions?

I think the 2080 will do a brilliant job on it's own but the argument for keeping the filter is it's better to have a back up if one breaks down. I'm just setting up an external and I can't wait to take the juwel internal out for a bit more space but thats MO.

Personally I'd take out the Juwel. They are far too much of a pain to maintain and keep sludge free - especially the bits at the bottom (which are incredibly hard to get to) where there's some dead space where lots of gunk and grime build up.

bummer, i just bought some filter replacements for the fluval, i did take out the old filter bit's and have noticed that the bottom of the black box there is still water from the previous persons aquarium, so i will be sponging it up this evening soon  ...
