Tim's 180 Litre Marine Tank Journal

Gorgeous Wrasse and Sponge there :good:.

Unfortunately, thats not a Xenia, its a Goniopora. Goniopora are very difficult and have poor survival rates in the home aquarium. Many have kept them but their survivability rate is very low. I'd get reading up on it if I were you. So long as it keeps its color, its healthy, but if it starts bleaching its likely going to perish. Feedings of phytoplankton, rotifers, and/or cyclopeeze are almoast required to keep goniopora along with high light and relatively high flow. Good luck with it

@*@*!!

Thanks for the headsup :good:

I may take it back then, I pre-ordered it over the phone from my LFS as xenia! Don't really want to take on a tricky coral this early...

Damn!

Awww thats such a shame!! If you lived closer I'd buy it from you like a shot

Maybe after some research you might decide to keep it. I have made more than one purchase of corals just to come home and find out they are "expert only" and (touch wood) have not lost a single one yet, in fact all of my corals are thriving!

You may find that the feeding issues are more, getting hold of the foods, rather than actually getting the coral to feed. It might be worth looking into whether there is anywhere local that sells it.

If you have the time there is nothing more rewarding than keeping a more difficult coral healthy and happy

Yes I am a coral nut

I went to STM (sevenoaks tropical marine) today, great shop BTW, and was looking at their super green phytoplankton.

Maybe this will help?

You can subscribe and they post it once or twice a month.

Thats typically the case. I count my blessings that we have a local farmer of phytoplankton and rotifers to help out my corals. May not be the case in most areas

I think it's such a shame that getting good quality coral foods is so difficult in some areas. IMO shops selling corals should legally have to provide a source of the correct foods for them.....but.......

Anyway....I'm gonna step down off my soapbox before I get into full rant mode :grr:

Anyway, swapped the goniopora for a pulsing xenia (which was what i wanted in the first place!) the gonio was too much too soon I think.

Heres the latest shots, with the upgraded lighting plus new addition :good:

After we lost the newest member, a Coral beauty, a few weeks back. (He never acted quite right, hiding all the time and not eating from day 1, and he introduced a nasty dose of whitespot into the aquarium which I've managed to stop thankfully) we decided on a replacement over the weekend. I didn't want another angel after we lost the CB so...

We bought a lovely firefish on Saturday, a lovely plump specimen, which I made sure was in perfect health at the LFS and saw him eating etc.

At first I thought these fish were very shy so didn't want to get one, despite thinking they were gorgeous fish, but after some advice and hearing the experience of others on here I realised he should be OK. He's been mixing well with the others and is out and about. Seems to have lots of personality and is very beautiful :good:

I'll get some new tank shots this week.

Oooh lovely, congratulations! Is it a purple one?

Thanks, its a red one (Nemateleotris magnifica). The purple ones don't seem to have the lovely long fins on their back like the red ones, at least the ones I've seen at my LFS's anyway.

Your clowns look increible. very nice colours.
there is nothing better than a Purple tank!! coraline rocks! :p
Doing good mate

Yeah the coraline is growing nicely :good:

I'm sure the good colouration on the fish is down, in part at least, to cyclopeeze, I've heard it really colours the fish up.

Thanks for the kind words.
