A newbie with a question.

My 2 tiger barbs are in a small tank; 1.6 liter. Petco asst. manager said put in 1 drop Tetra Aqua-Safe chemical, Walmart Spring water (because Angleton TX water is bad). Also put in a pinch of Biozyme.

Next day readings still high like numbers shown below. I added treatment of water with pH tablet (portion) and fungus clear tablet (portion). The fish are swimming near the top and have what appears to be white spots over their eye balls and on their bodies. When should the next dose of fungus clear be given?

Treated tank with jungle brand fungus clear tank buddies....fingernail size piece dropped in tank yesterday pm.
Also yesterday pm I treated for ph control....small piece dropped in tank.....not successful....reading still high.

These are the third day readings:
nitrate = 20 (safe according to test strip)
nitrite = 2 (stress according to test strip)
hard water = 150 (according to test strip)
alkalinity = 180 (ideal according to test strip)
ph =8.4 (according to test strip)

Thanks for any and all help.

First, I find it surprising that you used such a small tank. Tiger barbs max at 3in. and they are schooling fish, should be in groups of 3-6 or more. They are also very nippy. Your tank is overstocked, 1 liter is not even enough for a betta.

Pet store workers are usually not that knowledgeable, and they give VERY wrong info.

Test strips are crap, get the API master test kit for the sake of your fish! If that's not an option, at least get an Ammonia test kit.

Thanks for the info.
Fish store is closed today but the wife will pick one up tomorrow.

That tank is way to small for tiger barbs.
If on the eyes on body the spots look like grains of salt it whitespot.
