Tiger Barbs Dying

Hi, thanks for all the helpful info guys! The red eyes are doing very well still happy as larry!!, I still don't understand what happened??, I think I will change my brand of water conditioner, I have had bog wood and plants in the tank from day, I'm just keeping a close on the tetras and they seem to be growing every day! So at least there doing well, I have heard that barbs are very sensitive to change and usally show the first signs of stress in the aquarium, I did love the tigers but I'm not sure about keeping them now, i was enjoying my boystrous community tank!, and ideas guys? Thanks again :)

Gazzae,

I seem to be dealing with a similar problem. I have had a new 75 gallong tank fishless cycled since march and added tiger barbs in april. I had 23 total and just lost two albinos at the end of july and looks like 1 green tiger and 1 regular this week.

My water changes have been consistant and the same from week 1. I have gone so far to wonder if it is frozen brine shrimp. Each time I have fed them this frozen food ( dethawed in tank water of course ), I have lost two the next week. The frozen brine shrimp were from two different packs as I threw out the first one after the 1st incident.

I am having a hard time putting my finger on the issue, however, will aviod feeding the frozen brine shrimp and after two more weeks of water changes and no casulties will restock the barbs to 24.

I will keep you posted and interested to here how you are coming along..

Best to leave the frozen food for a bit if no more die then that it your problem but if more do die you will have to think of another cause.

Most certainly Panda,

It sounds like a stretch to me, however, I am very diligent with my water changes and parameters are always 0,0, 10-15.

I RO my water because we have well water and 30-40ppm nitrates out of the well ( problem with living near a farm ). I add back all the necessary minerals to the water as well ( measured out each week ). Other two tanks fish/shrimp are doing fine.

The four that have passed seem to have the same symptoms. They become very lethargic and leave the school and pretty much stay in one spot until their end. It is very sad and frustrating.

If not for fish keeping, my life would be stress free B-)
